SANTO DOMINGO.- The head of United Kingdom’s Foreign Trade and Investment Department, Andrew Cahn, will visit Dominican Republic on the 15th, which could mark a new stage in the flow of British investments and bilateral interchange, said its ambassador in the country.
Ian A. Worthington said Cahn will have a very intense agenda, including meetings with Dominican industrialists, representatives of British companies in the country and government officials.
He noted Cahn’s vast knowledge and experience in foreign trade and even more since heading UK’s Foreign Trade since March, 2006.
The British ambassador said trade between both countries is positive and Dominican Republic is Great Britain’s fifth largest Caribbean’s export market, with around US$54 million in 2007, whereas Dominican Republic exported more than US$88 million to his country. “Almost all the products that enter United Kingdom from this country are farm products.”
The diplomat mentioned tobacco, cacao, avocados, bananas, lemons and coconuts and possibly rum and beer soon.
Worthington said to this country Great Britain exports whiskey, vehicles, generators, medical equipment, pharmaceutical products, general industrial machinery and manufactured articles, among others.
