I think mainland China will now increase the pressure to have Taiwan move closer in the next few years

they know china is a oppresive regime. will they want to give their freedom they have now? i doubt it. i think china will have to invade taiwan and then china to beat usa in war since there is a usa law that if china attack taiwan there is a declaration of war against china dated back to the chiang kai cheh era.

I think it is very complicated and unification is probably inevitable and everyone knows it ...they are just in the seduction phase at this time ....Surprisingly there is support in Taiwan for unification as well ,it is the terms and details that is the rub....The Taiwanese are huge investors in mainland China

Free Trade Agreement? what do these two countries trade with one another? The Domincan Republic buys everything from food to nails from mainland China and yet has no diplomatic representation with that nation...however Leonel is signing a trade agreement that will achive nothing....Chen shu Bai (ex president of taiwan who visited DR during leonel s presidency and is now in a taiwanese jail on corruption charges) promised to absolve the DR-taiwan debt 3 yrs ago...still waiting...

I hope Taiwan and mainland China reunite peacefully. Mainland China is willing to take back Taiwan, which it considers a rebelious province, militarily. I like Taiwan and we should always be friends with them, but you know mainland China doesn't like this. It's very tempting to stablish diplomatic relations with mainland China, but I don't see the DR turning its back to a friend like Taiwan under president Leonel Fernandez.

I view international relations as a positive thing, although i can't think of what we can trade with Taiwan, it may turnout to be beneficial.
