SANTO DOMINGO.- A high level work delegation of the Caribbean Community’s (Caricom) Secretariat visited Dominican Republic to meet with representatives of the Government, private sector, civil society and the country’s universities, as part of a regional consultation aimed at improving relations with the region’s countries.

The National Trade Negotiations Commission (CNNC) coordinated the meetings held in the Foreign Relations Ministry, and headed by its executive secretary, ambassador Cesar Dargam, who hailed the initiative.

Moreover, Charles Clermont, member of the delegation, called the meeting with representatives of the different sectors “interesting” and affirmed that they’ll render a report.

From: Cuba, it is a secret the censors are looking for me
Keep in mind that most of these islands cannot produce enough food and they must import ....so in that case they represent opportunities of trade but culturally they are from another Galaxy far away

"culturally they are from another Galaxy far away" That's an understatement.

If I said what I really felt about this topic I would be banned.

'CARICOM-MIE" Go to Cuba instead.

They need the DR way more then the DR needs them

They aren't from another galaxy any more than US is from another galaxy. I know you've been around the islands GC so I'll have to ask you to expand on that.

Jander this is true but the opportunities for both sides should be studied and agro business is an outstanding opportunity ....the problem is refer containers and shipping ....every island in the Lesser Antilles is a potential market for all we can grow ....How do we get it there and can we get the quality consistent

Not only GC has expeince in the West Indies..

I have been dealing with 4 islands on a daily basis for 14 years.

The affectionate term 'Island Time" becomes a way to justify, how long it takes to get the most simple task done.

no but will look it up.

Just a few weeks a go one of our servers on one of the islands was having problems.

I had to have another one sent down from the US.

The server got down there in less then 24 hours , but being there were Cricket matches going on it took a week to clear customs.
This is where trading with these islands is near to impossible.

The government workers aren't near as corrupt but the only time you will see them moving fast is at lunch time and when it is time to go home.

No Worries Mon!

That's going to be a challange for anyone.

Caricom just need to get a life and find something else to waste tax payers money on. We have many problems here and don't need another

Should be self sufficient - repair your own server! This way the country doesn't loose money importing unecessary items.

Caricomm countries envy the DR for having the highest GDP in the region and now they are scared they might miss out on their piece of the pie because of DR is part of SICA.

Don't worry Edward, Jamaicans will be taking over DR in a few years, so we don't have to 'envy' DR anymore...we'll just be in charge.

Forget those island! They support Haiti! If we trade at all, we should trade with Trinidad & Tobaggo who has energy (gas).
Caricom takes the Haitian side in the Haitian/Dominican conflict!

Newflash
Barbados is ranked #3 in the west hemisphere with the highest standard of living.
Trinidad has the fastest growing economy in the caribbean
The eastern caribbean growth outpaces the DR

But i hear nonsense from a people and land that if i visit tomorrow i can have two girls for the cost of $40US.

Have you ever been to Barbados? I was there 4 months ago and i'm going again on this month just for work related by way i got some picture i can show you what you think is high standard of living give me a break man. 95 percent of barbadians can't afford to live on their own thats why they all rent apt. together. Williams Evergreen own everything in the island everything and nobody else can't say anything not even the president. they don't even grow chikens there. By the way check the weather there! yes it does rain 200 plus days a year if you didn't know. The most humid place on earth. also about Trinidad can you name something other than oil that is produced there.

go to mcallen,tx and you can get lot more than 2 girls for $40

blknyer-"Once again you racist domincians prove too me, that you are the stupidest people in the Carib. When i deal with these domicians kids in nyc who refuse to learn , who joins gangs like DDP i now see they larn it from thier elders" -Just the kind of remark that would come out of the mouth of someone who is probably just as stupid, as the very same people you are calling stupid. You are as feeble minded and prejudicial as the kids you are incapable to motivate. Your lack of ability to empower and inspire youth to achieve bigger and better things is clearly demonstrated your denial to accept responsibility. You have failed in your vocation by placing blame on others rather then in yourself. The fault is not on those in which you were entrusted to help change. Do yourself a favor, get into the vending machine business, buy a hot dog cart or get an ice cream truck, then go to a park, you might just help those kids by selling food or if not at least make a few bucks for yourself.
