SANTO DOMINGO. - Management and the unions are close an agreement to increase wages of private sector employees, although the same is subject to the proposal the industrialists are expected to submit next week.
Labor minister Max Puig said expressed his optimism with the Dominican Management Confederation\s proposal to counter the unions’ demand for a wage increase.
"We expect that an agreement will be reached, we favor a wage increase. In addition to the promise of the business sector to the workers, represented by the unions, of a proposal for the end of March and therefore, we expect they’ll reach an agreement,” the official said.
The unions grouped in the CNUS and other labor groups in Dominican Republic have been demanding a wage increase of up to 40 percent.

The labour Ministers, the Private Sector Representatives and the Unions are all working together to reach an agreement. We should celebrate the effort; rather than bashing. What we need is positive encouragement to move forward. Let's celebrate our accomplishment for once; l rather than bitch and complaint about what little is going wrong...

The increase will not help as much. Some items are too expensive for a common worker to afford.

I feel that customs charges too much tax on some items. This makes some items amost impossible to afford for a common workor. Instead of being able to afford a name brand product, the common worker will usually onle be able to afford some Asian unknown brand.

This is another point I agree with you. We have yet to master to subtlerty of Marketing. That the case of Barcelò Hotels: While you're allowed to visit any hotel in the Barcelò Bavàro complex (all the hotels, except the Barcelò Palace is All-Inclusive); you're not allowed to visit and eat any other Barcelò Hotels in Bavàro/Punta Cana (even when they're also All-Inclusive). As any Marketing Manager would know, you have to create Brand loyalty. You do that by leveraging you assets. Having visitors visit any Barcelò Hotels in Bavàro/Punta Cana will re-inforce the desire to stick to Barcelò Hotels only every time they visit the DR (or any other Barcelò destination); but alas, that concept scapes the managerment in the DR...

This will force the Government to raise taxes and to incurr more debt (from borrowing) to pay for these subsidies! WE ARE DOOMED! The cure to inflation is more productivity, innovation, and self sufficiency (perhaps more foreign trade or a freaking war will loosen up this inflationary spiral).

this is not good for dominican workers the haitian could exploit this wages increase by also taking over this sector too. money talk, these company could get fed up and with help from a few crooks politician who for a few money in their pocket sell their own country could help brake the union and hire the illegal haitian for food.
