SANTO DOMINGO.- Former Dominican ambassador in Haiti Jose Serrulle said Monday he supports U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s proposal to create twin companies between Dominican Republic and Haiti. “Everything that’s done to bolster links for trade, industry, farming, agro-forestry, to protect the environment, the health of both nations which share this island of Hispaniola is highly positive.”

He said the measure would make it possible for both nations to play a more dynamic role in terms of their integration at the world and the Caribbean levels.

Serrulle said it’s time that both nations draw plans aimed at continuing with the war against the traffic of drugs, weapons and of people, stressing that although they are different States, “it doesn’t imply that they cannot work together.”

Interviewed in program “Uno + Uno”, the former diplomat said that to see Dominican and Haitians companies working together in the constructions such as highways, bridges and roads would have an extraordinary value, because these would benefit from the work of technicians and engineers from both countries.

As to the problem Haitian immigrants, he said the country has been unjustly criticized, noting that the Dominican nation that has most collaborated with their cause, adding that the Haitians who reside in Dominican territory have dignified work and pay. “We’re the country that has collaborated most with Haiti in real terms, first because we receive its work force and we’re already paying them fair salaries in relation to what Dominicans make.”

The ex Dominican ambassador in Haiti said he’s optimistic with the Haitian development process, because in his view it’s a nation that’s entering its best stage during the last 20 years.

I agree with everything this Ambassador had to say. it is true, regardless of other possible social differences between the two nations that DR has always known to have great existing trade relations with Haiti and believe it or not, I know ther are a lot of Human Right Issues that need to be solved and I am sure both Nations are trying to work on, to say the least and give credit where it is due; DR has taken so much unsung burdens when it comes to the migration/immigration issues more than they get credit for.

First: Our biggest trading partner is the U.S. followed by South Korea and Taiwan. WE DO NOT NEED HAITI FOR OUR SURVIVAL OR CONTINUED PROGRESS!

Second: Haitian immigrants in DR send $300 million dollars from DR to Haiti. NO DOMINICAN INVESTMENT IN HAITI IS CREATING JOBS NOR WEALTH IN DR! IN FACT, HAITI IS DRAWING MORE RESOURCES FROM DR THAN THE OTHER WAY AROUND. This includes contraband (rice, garlic, coffee, arms, drugs, used clothes, etc.), remittances, and the stealing of our cattles, fauna and flora (forest).

Third: THE ADDITION OF POVERTY (DR) TO ULTRAPOVERTY (HAITI) YIELDS PERENNIAL HUMAN FAILURE! The citizenry in Haiti is poor, uneducated, sick, and violent. With those qualities, no investor and no foreign nation can benefit from people with no skills and with destructive behavior.

Fourth: We are two different nation (language, history, racial distribution, mother land, customs, etc.) and coupling is very difficult!

Ambassador shut up!

Generoso,
Besides language, everything else is the same. Of course there are more whites in the DR than in Haiti. So the Black Dominicans are Spanish?? Or all Blacks in the DR are Haitians??
There is as much contraband coming from Haiti to the DR as there is from the DR to Haiti.
You may think you do not need HAiti but the fact remains that this Island is the Home of the DR and Haiti and the the faith of one will affect the other.
It is time to move on from the old ways both for Haitians AND Dominicans.

Ambassador Jose Serrulle is a perfect observer of the global situation of the island. His proposal is justified cos' the future is the new market offered by 25millions people of both countries. This project of plant is very intelligent.Tomorrow when Cuba will be free ,economy will be more agressive.DR suppose to transform this island in a perfect place to live .Maybe need one generation but we have to start now.Ambassador Serrulle is helping for the Hispanola Project.
