SANTO DOMINGO. - The fast food restaurants grouped in ADECOR will suspend starting in May their background music indefinitely, until negotiations over copyright fees with the regulator agencies SGACEDOM and SODINPRO conclude.

In a statement, ADECOR said it has tried to reach an agreement with both institutions to set reasonable fees for the industry since January, and that all its members unanimously approved the measure. “This suspension affects our customers, but we know we have their support because they understand the situation our sector is going through.”

ADECOR’s 500 member restaurants include De Nosotros Empanadas, Baskin Robbins, Burger King, Domino's Pizza, Emparedado, Expreso Jade, Green Light Cuisine, Bon ice cream, KFC, McDonald' s, Pala Pizza, Popa John's, Pizza Hut, Pizzarelli, Pollo Victorina, Provocon IV, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, among others.

Manhattanite,
How much do you think Anthony Santos makes daily even with all of the bootlegging going on. An average Dominican can not afford to go to one of his concerts. Beleive me the musicians are eating...

I do like what Polanco does in Monte Bar in Santiago. 300 pesos on Friday nights so everyone can get in.

Dominican artists deserve to be paid and this type of "tax" is the only way the ones that are not Anthony Santos get anything. The problem is...do an audit of SGACEDOM and SODINPRO and find out how much is collected and how much goes to any musitions. SGACEDOM for one is a disaster !

Since Nuria is the only one that seems to get anything done maybe she should take a look at that.

Cleaning up these organizations so that young starving dominican musicos can get a little scratch would probaly do more good for society than anything. Not just Dominican society but the world community also that will get to enjoy even more bachata...

malditogringo,
If these fast food places have to pay the music tax, they will pass on the costs to the clients. You will see an increase in food prices. the musicians work almost every night, they get a decent pay
