SANTO DOMINGO.- Electricity superintendent Francisco Méndez yesterday confirmed the Dominican Government’s purchase of all shares of the Electricity Distributor of the East (EdeEste), and as part of a settlement to a lawsuit in which the lawyers had already been paid US$12 million.

The Government acquired EdeEste’s entire stake reportedly for as much as US$25 million, after a negotiation headed by State-owned Electrical Companies (CDEEE) vice-president Radhamés Segura.

The business leaders grouped in the (Conep) called EdeEste’s purchase an “involution,” which far from clearing up the panorama, now adds one more pitfall toward a rational solution to the electricity problem, for which it deplores the Government’s attitude.

EdeEste earned US$20.38 million in February and operating expenses of US$34.57 million, for a deficit of US$14.19 million, or US$2.22 million less (13.55%) than the expected deficit of US$16.41 million.

The deficit forced the Government to disburse RD$288.78 million (US$8.09 million) to EdeEste.

After the subsidy the deficit in February was US$6.10 million.

“With the purchase of the EdeEste shares the personnel would no longer have excuses as will now have major motivation to work and increase revenues and the State doesn’t have to disburse funds or contribute tax revenues to a private company, and instead to one it owns," Méndez said.

They (DR Politicos) can and are doing this,,, because they can. The majority of the Pueblo Dominicano, is unaware of this, and much less, understands it. Question, how well connected are the lawyers invoved in the $12MM US fee, thats already paid? Are they Friends or Family (humm)? Unfortunately, we here in the USA are just as weak (non-caring) as the Dominican pueblo. The American Pueblo is accepting everything this Obama Admin. is dishing out, as if he is "The Messiah". The USA is on a fast road to complete bankruptcy which is very frightening. We are not coming out of the Recession nor have we reached economic rock bottom as yet. GOD help us all.

juango,
the recession seems to have hit the bottom and will stay there for a few months, I would say that by the middle of next year the uphill climb will begin.

Just another case of bad people doing bad things to people who don't know any better, and for the most part, don't really care.

I agree with Juanb the masses are not doing their best to combat these corruptions and is another reasons they are kept uneducated so they can keep doing what they do best steal. I have always said people in dr just want to have fun. if you know what i mean.

Dominicans need to unite against Corruption at all levels and Media freedoms that are now corrupted, manipulated or threatened with bodily harm.

The government fosters the same neocolonialism instituted since Columbus landed.
Nothing has changed here in 500 plus years.

Don't get me wrong it is not just in the DR, this is a human condition World Wide.
