SANTO DOMINGO.- President Leonel Fernandez last night affirmed that from the effects of the global financial crisis since March, 2008, the Government has withstood the most serious, severe and  uncertain period his three terms in office.

He said despite that the situation hasn’t been caused by nor originated in the Dominican Republic, it has had a great impact on the country, and called on the different sectors to build a consensus and dialogue to deal with it.

“And that which in principle is economic financial and can, however, have devastating social effects and when you have it in the social you could have it in political."

The chief executive warned that the economic crisis could possibly become "a problem and crisis of governance."

Fernandez spoke in the inaugural of the seminar "Latin American Interchange of Experiences in Politics and Government," hosted by the Global Foundation Democracy and Development, until June 25.

Several former presidents of the region, academicians, officials and consultants from different Ibero-American countries participate in the activity.

Enrique Iglesias, Ibero-American Secretary General, and Leyda Iglesias, representative of the Latin American Youth Organization also delivered speeches.
