Santo Domingo.- National Business Council (Conep) president Lisandro Macarrulla again called on the members of the assembly which revises the Constitution to take into account their suggestions on budget management, which would force the city councils to maintain district appropriations and allocations for each type of service.

The Conep chief said the city councils could, with the approval of the required law, establish fees under the condition that these don’t overlap neither with government taxes, international trade nor with other laws. “In order to contribute to the reform process an agreement is needed with the national interests, the Conep wants to call the attention of the Revisory Assembly members, so they take into account this reform proposal regarding the country’s municipalities.”

In a statement Macarrulla affirmed that the proposal’s essence seeks to prevent a higher public deficit brought about by an inadequate allocation of funds and the State’s fiscal policy, to the detriment of citizens.
