Santo Domingo.- Calling the Dominican Government’s acquisition of the energy distributor EdeEste for US$26.5 million a "historic day" for the country, the vice-president of the State-owned power companies (CDEEE), presented its new manager Gerardo Sosa.

Radhamés Segura, who’s in the spotlight for admitting widespread nepotism in the CDEEE, affirmed that EdeEste won’t be politicized, nor its payroll ballooned.

He said that in 2004 he found a US$453 million debt, which has been lowered to US$199 million so far.

The official denied that the private power companies are owed US$450 million. He said nearly US$277 million have been paid this year and that since 2008 they are owed US$183 million, excluding June, and another US$199 million in arrears, for a total of US$382 million.

Nepotism is the same as money laundering for drug cartels.

juanb, you are almost correct regarding the $25MM, not all is going into his (Segura & FAmily) pocket... about 30% of whatever the total number of funds skimmed off the top are going to LF (Margarita or family), as "JOB SECURITY" Insurance premium.

Responding to the critics, Segura remarked, "So people who need a job and do their job, because they are relatives, can't work in that institution?" He added that there was no law against hiring family members.

Oh lord.

Do they show up for work?
What is their job description?
Who is their boss?

I do not believe for a second that ANY of them do anything that would help make this business money. If they are part of ONLY a cost center. Get rid of them.

If they get paid and do NOTHING. You go to jail ! period.
