Santo Domingo. - A delegation of Venezuela’s State-owned oil company PDVSA will arrive in the country Sunday to discuss the purchase of a 49 percent stake in the country’s only refinery Refidomsa, an official said Friday.

Miguel Mejía, a Dominican ambassador assigned to the Foreign Relations Ministry, said the negotiation only needs the "final touches" such as the signatures of presidents Leonel Fernandez and Hugo Chavez, whom postponed it on June 30 after Honduras’ military coup.

Dominican Republic will sell 49 percent of Refidomsa’s shares for US$130 million, said Hacienda minister Vicente Bengoa.

Last month Fernandez revealed that the refinery stake was also offered to Mexico and Brazil, "but it was Venezuela which offered the best conditions to the Dominican Republic.”

Last year Dominican Government paid US$110 million to Shell for 50 percent of the shares it didn’t already own in Refidomsa, which currently refines 34,000 barrels daily.

If half of yall used your time doing something productive or constructive on the political front or the economic or social front instead of writing cynical comments about everything on this website, perhaps a lot of the stuff you're b*tching about wouldn't happen.

curveball, you are preaching the same ol' gospel that has been going around for months. Yes, you are correct, but only Dominican Citizens can do the "Lucha" for reform. Extranjeros cannot do it for them, nor should we.

Where are you from? My understanding was that I was dealing with English speaking Dominican.

curveball,

You've shown great guts with your comments above, and I do not necessarily disagree with content or intent.

FredC,

Joint is fantastic dump right on Via Venetto, across from US Embassy.

Had some good tripe, lasagna and eggplant; pizza, however, has clearly been a disappoinment. Even their beloved Pizza Margarita hasn't been good.....I understand some of it has been previously frozen. Peroni beer, however, has been consistent hit.

Heading home next Monday. Height of tourist season here and temperature getting hot.
