Sharm el Sheik, EGYPT.- Foreign Relations minister Carlos Morales announced yesterday that Dominican Republic will become the liaison between the Arab countries with the nations of the Rio Group, the of Central American Integration System and the Caribbean Forum of Countries.
The official said the country will serve as a bridge to bring the Arab League, the Middle East’s most important regional organization which groups all Arab states, with Latin America’s main regional entities, aimed at promoting the interchange between both regions.
He said president Leonel Fernandez assumed the commitment during a meeting with Arab League Secretary General Amr Mousa.

Here's how it works, in case you haven't noticed. LF and a bunch of his plundering buddies go on vacation at our expense. While away he takes time out from doing NOTHING and he meets with a couple of officials. He comes back and tells us about all the great deals he made and all the business that is coming our way. Nothing ever materializes, so they go on another vacation.

all joking aside, is there or will there ever be a time when any individual can rise to the expectations of the people? It doesn't seem like history judges these circumstances correctly, since most beloved leaders are often written about in a good way and never expose the opposition's side... So with that said, it seems that all leaders have their loved ones and their most hated ones. In DR, it does seem like mostly hate for this man. Is there anything he can do that will allow people to love him? I doubt it. Afterall, no matter what any president in DR can do he will not correct all issues. For those whose issues he has not corrected and can't correct he will always be the wolf in sheeps clothes. Most likely, there is a point where even Jesus Christ himself could decend upon Dominican Republic and a majority of Dominicans will say it is just another fraud, another charlatan, or just another devil... No progress will ever be celebrated by the people. So what must a president do?

Well a president who could be seen to be taking action against those exposed as corrupt might be a start rather than taking them away on holidays disguised as business trips with him!!

Wait, so more Middle Easterners are coming?. It was about time we got something besides Haitians. I hope they are Persians, not the Jihadist type.

Ateo1992, I am pretty sure you aren't talking about Pakis or Afghans. As long as they are the Christian ones(which my ancestor was), I am more than fine. I don't really trust those followers of Mohammed, just look at UK and France.

Arab nations are as poor as Dominican Republic when it comes down to the common populace. Don't believe the hype! Only the oil barons and there ministers live in extreme richness with harem galore... As far as this accord i can't really say anything it hasn't developed any fruits yet, we must wait and see.

For those who may not know, Arabs have a long history in the Dominican Republic and many Dominicans have Arab heritage.
*cyberdragon* the follower of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, are already in the country and they are Dominicans not Arabs. Check the statistics on Dominican reverts overseas and in the country itself and the number of doctors who are of this following in the DR. You should look for mutual understanding than remarks of indifference.
May this bring prosperity to our beautiful island country and open doors to education and removal of the ignorance that our people have on a great people of whom we share soo much in common.

The Arab states can all be trusted. The confusion amongst most persons occurs when terrorism is discussed. The arab culture denomonize the west because of its Governmental P O L I C I E S that are pro corporate which has lead tp many problems for the common person and recently lead to the economic world fallout (albeit planned). The Arab people are very accommodating and go out of their way to be nice to ALL persons. Religious TOLERANCE is what we all must advocate in a rapidly overpopulated world. Give these people a chance. ...The Arab banks did not fail, but are prospering. It has to do with Sharia philosophy where companies & people pay back their debts and at ZERO interest (no wall street stealing). Again, people helping people, something the "West" has set aside for greed. Greed does not exist in the Arab states. Do not stereotype a few terrorists who are against western greed & did not want this to spread into their cultures with mainstream arab population.

Um yeeeaaah... The banks may not charge "interest" but they're not giving money out of the goodness of their hearts either. From what little I read they typically use Murabaha (Trade Financing) the bank buys the goods and sells them to the purchaser at an inflated cost on loan so that interest doesn't exist, Mudaraba (Profit Sharing Finance) They get a certain percent of whatever profit you make or Musharaka (Joint Venture) where the bank and company or person are actual joint partners in finanace and management. They don't just loan the money for free. Greed exists everywhere, if not they wouldn't have uber-rich oil princes, politicians, and business men while a great majority of the population are broke in many areas.

Aissedei, I don't know about that but I guess is what I was trying to say is that for the majority of common people (lower income wage earners) there exists interest free loan programs to a very large extent. These borrowers are paying back the loans at a greater percentage than the westerners have in large part due to their religious faith. The interest free loans must be provided as a result of the Sharia law. No interest charged or earned or paid to or by these people. I am told years ago, the west criticized the Middle eastern banks and said they would fail because of this. Quite the contrary now that the history books are written. Greed is what brought down the west, it simply does not exist in the east (At tleast not to the same extent) to the point to bring down the banking system. Sure they have oil revenues but that is a separate subject.

In my humble opinion :i think the Jews and the Arabs are the same people since they are cousins.
Maybe if we open the door to these people like Trujillo did to the Jews during ww2 and gave them 100,000 visas which they never used, instead jumped to the USA via DR as a bridge and very few stayed in Sosua. Since the USA were not granting any visas to them to keep piece with the Nazi regime in Germany .
We must remember the Arab influx at the start of last century to the DR and many LA countries as well ,whose offspring are the middle class of DR and the rest of LA today. They were able to adapt and pick up our culture ,more than i could say about the Jews there or in Spain who finaly got rid of them in the "Iquisition" time and wind up in Turkey where they remain today, "'Safardites."
They figured if they can't control as they are doing in the USA they may as well leave Spain in 1483
