Santo Domingo.– Labor minister Max Puig affirmed that as he had sated last week a wage increase will be confirmed tomorrow Tuesday, for which the business sector agreed a 15% hike with retroactivity to June 1 and subject to a revision within one year.
“The business sector has understood that a 12% increase is insufficient to cover the demand of goods and services of workers, fundamentally for a minimum standard of living,” he said, and affirmed that the wage increase will be retroactive to June 1, with a revision within a year.
Puig said the minimum wage increase for the non-sectored workers has become, beyond a social issue, one of justice, because workers should get back part of the wealth they contribute to generate.
The official added that as the result of the low purchasing power of the neediest, and the price jumps of staple products in the last few days, are mostly to blame for the economic contraction.

finally the fair deal!
It may sound nice (a pay raise) but it has its unintended consequences of shifting the problem down (since the poor will not keep up) and stomping on the Peso!
15% more for Haitian workers.... Hooray!!!
