Wonderful news... So if DR uses 116,000 barrel of oil a day than by a rough estimate we should be consuming around 60,000 after the new plant becomes involve in all sectors ???

That is good news, but how many cars in the DR are ready to use natural gas?

Most cars already run on propane. I am sure they just have to change some of the equipment. I heard a cab driver complain that the costs of natural will be cheap but the system will be expensive to have it installed in your car. He also was upset because the clients will demand a lower fare when natural gas kicks in, lowering the $$$ for the taxi drivers

Really? Where do you live?

A proper, safe and efficient CNG conversion for a car will run abot $3000 US plus labor.

Taking into cost of conversion, Lower mileage and the difference in the costs of fuel it would take the average car owner about 6 years of problem free use to just break even.

All is good as a propaganda, the fact is all they have is a distribution center, that should had been in place 30 yrs ago. They still have to import the fossil fuel (gas) from the smaller Antlles in order for them to distribute the same . Still relying on imported fuel ,you can call it gas or petro. For the same amount of money they could had extracted their own so as not to rely on others . We are talking about row material to be used by nationals that is still underground and it is a known fact that DR has fossil fuel un-extracted. It is easier for any DR gvt to accept kick back in a short term than investments on a long term. Since they will last only 4 yeras stilling ffrom the national treassure for themelves , their relatives, friends. Such is the case of the so called th Zsar of the DR energy. They should be ashamed not been equal to their counterpart ,(SMALLER ANTILLES).
As to self sufficiency as far as energy is concern ,having the means to do so..

I guess it take one to know one . I can see you don't know much about DR resourses, including
the biggest gold mine in the world in PUEBLO VIEJO extracted by CANADIANS. It takes investment
in order to yield results. Oil fields are the result of explorations and investments, and are man made.
