Port-au-Prince.- The lower house of the Haitian Parliament voted this week to
raise the minimum wage in the assembly sector from 1.29 dollars (70
gourde) to only 3.20 dollars (125 gourde) per day, rather than the 5.12
dollars (200 gourde) which had been demanded and passed.
This
exemption must now be approved by the Haitian Senate. Preval, bowing to
pressure from business owners, had refused to sign a bill which called
for an across the board increase in the minimum wage to 200 gourde a
day.
He returned the bill to Parliament on Jun. 17, recommending
instead that the minimum wage for an eight-hour day be fixed at 125
gourde. The "assembly sector" is defined as those industries whose
products are dedicated to re-exportation.
The close vote of 38 for to 36 against, held by secret ballot
as permitted in the Constitution, opens the way to a resolution of the
disturbances that have rocked the Haitian capital since April.
Industry leaders had threatened that if they were forced to
pay the minimum wage of 200 gourde a day, as proposed, many of the more
than 300,000 workers might lose their jobs.

And the Haitians complain when they come to DR and get paid cash for illegal construction work for five times that amount, (US$15.00 a day) plus free health care, housing, security, running water, and other goodies they never had in their homeland.

This is a big problem! Haiti has not raise it's minimum wage for a long time FORCING THE HAITIAN TO MIGRATE TO WHERE HIGHER WAGES ARE WHICH IS DR! DR continues to increase its minimum wage and that ACTS LIKE A MAGNET THAT DRAWS THE HAITIAN.
Haiti is ON PURPOSE keeping their minimum salaries low TO FORCE THE HAITIAN TO MIGRATE. This is how the displacement of the Dominican by the Haitian is being fueled! At the same time, the corrupt in Haiti continue to maintain their profits!
The combination of 310,000 newly born Haitian every year, low salaries, and low opportunities greatly push that humanity towards DR where there are no physical barriers to the jumping Antelopes and in DR, there are the proHaitian who are orchestrating their actions to give a warm welcome to the illegal!

Firstly i can assure you that in the 3 construction companies I know personally here in la Romana, the wage per day is no where near $15 a day ,,I can only talk about here and not in the capital.I had some renovations in my home here and one day the haitian worker hurt himself ,,he was alone and I drove him to a doctor and then home ..he had no power, no fresh water and definitely no security ,,his pay then was between 100 and 15o pesos a day ..maybe just a little more than the haitians working in the sugar fields.
But if the minimum wage was raised in Haiti I am sure many less would come here looking for work and the Dominicans could do the work , but with less diligence and energy. There is huge wealth in the hands of a few in Haiti and their government needs to take a stronger stand so the workers can earn more, There are a very large number of students paying good money to attend universities in the DR and of course many rich Haitians living in the DR.

The average pay for a Haitian construction worker in Bavaro, Samana or the capital is $15 a day in large construction projects, where they usually sleep inside the building being built. They have access to public hospitals and the same facilities as Dominicans as far as water, security and transportation services.
The $6 a day figure you mentioned, if true it may be in a local, microcosmic scale and not the norm, but even if true it is still twice as much as they could get in Haiti if the bill is signed, and 4 times more than they are actually getting now.
The treatment of Haitians and Dominicans in La Romana, and Casa de campo is one of the worst in the country considering that the homes there are the most expensive in the island. The Cuban Fanjul family, multi multimillionaire sugar barons, are known for the exploitation of both Haitian and Dominican workers, and have a sad history of poor worker policies.

In fact, it wasn't really a push but an escape under the overwhelming invasion of the Huns, the Magyars who were a branch of the Huns family, and most of all, the Mongols. There are no paranoid Haitians here, there are only ones who are facing the living facts every single day of their life. I can understand why thing has slowed, even China has, in Beijing only, more than 400 hundred unfinished highrise. So, I think that everybody understands now that it is time to lighten our wine with water and to start working together instead of insulting the customer that brings you hundreds of milions of dollars every danm' year and year after year.
I swear to God if all my Haitians counterpart where fitted with my education and my character you would have been forced to respect us, because I would have retaliate harsly as soon as you would have stepped out of the line, and you know that I would have had a very powerful leverage we could call a heavy trade imbalance. Anybody with knowledge in economy can tell you that the US can't mess up too much with China, this country can crash its economy when it wants by massively selling its tresury bonds.
From: Dominican Republic, Boca de Chavon
Although the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is being financed by bonds taken up by China and the middle east ..the holders of these bonds have just as much to lose if the value of the bonds decreases ..and China would not want to crash the US economy any more than the USA wants to see the bonds flooding the market so is a two way street.

It is a more than excellent point Ricardolito, however, whatever they want it or not, the US is very dependent on the Chinese now. Besides, lately I heard that they refused to buy any more treasury bond from the United States, and that's why Europe and Japan had to step in and pick up the tab.
But with a 9 trillions deficit projected for the next decade beginning next year, the United States is dangerously flirting with unsolvancy and bankrupcy, and you know that if they go down, the whole danm' world goes down the economic sink with them.
From: Dominican Republic, Boca de Chavon
Yes it has been a difficult time for the economists in the USA and actually throughout the world ..but the decision to bail out various parts of the banking sector , the insurance sector and the motor industry by passing all the debt onto future generations was preferable to seeing a long term depression throughout the world that would have led to huge human suffering .
There needs to be a strong country or group of countries acting as policemen against the evil extremists , the terrorists throughout the world but the price of vigilance is high.

Cheap labour of foreigners in a country has been a fact of life for many years in many countries > The Italians use the north Africans in their car factories in Turin , the French also use north African labour, the Americans use cheap mexican labour and we use cheap labour from Haiti > I am sure the employers would prefer to use labour from the indiginous poulation but when they can make more profits or maybe change a loss into a profit , then they go for the cheapest labour .
The other alternative is to have all the factoriees in Haiti and keep the labour force there !!

You must scream and yell after them first before taking on my people, because if the situation was reversed the Dominicans would have done the same to us like in the 1920 and 40s. So, if someone needs to relax my friend it is the one that are crying falsely foul play while knowing what is going on. First off not only I but millions of Dominicans here have and will continue to express their unease with the allowed illegal immigration through the border! That is why in many towns ( and I mean many) in DR there has been uprisings of locals marching down to the authorities and telling them that if they do not take control of the situation they will take it into their own hands to make sure haitians arent allowed in their towns. I do not agree with this but they are acting out of desperateness and I know Haitians are also acting out of desperateness because of the horrible conditions in their country but that is why I continue to put pressure on the Haitian Government and the world to help the Republic of Haiti get on its feet so that as many Haitians need to migrate. As far as Haitians invading my thing is that instead of coming to DR which is Poor and will cause more chaos they should go to the USA which can deal with this situation better due to the available funds!
Do not let anybody disrupt your thinking .
Follow Roso's example

I am sorry that my comments may have offended you guys, and I apologize. However, you must admit that there is indeed a subtil color problem in your society. What you don't understand, and I don't think I'have enough allowed caractères in order to explain it to you, however, I am going to try to resume it at best.
I am Haitian and I consider myself one of African origin by my features even though I come from a very mixed family from my father's side. I am not going to waste my time about racism inside the mixed Haitian family, let's say that I grew up, thanks to the education I was fortunate enough to receive, and a good knowledge of our history, I grew up with the love of my country and my people.
I love the Dominicans even though the first one I knew was the most beautiful mulatto woman restaurant owner I've ever seen in my life and I was just 5 years old.
Now, we have all this socio political mess which has devided us so much that I don't think we will ever found back that mutual respect.
Do not put in your mind that my concern is uniquely vectored toward Haitians, no my friend every Black Dominican Haitian or not is my concern on your land, this is what I call the bond of kinship.
And this bond of kinship extends even to the whole Dominican nation, because if the blacks are my brothers, the remaining dominican population of a different skin pigmentation will always have my regional support :
As piece dividend, they now own the biggest chunk of Europe, and they're not finished. Even the American cannot challenge them now.
I sincerily do not think that you deserve such support and loyalty, but if you go down the whole island will go down, if you are at war, we must feel threaten too and entervene by your side, but you have preferred to think small and sell the real nationalist Dominican pride to a Super Power that considers you more as puppet than a partner. I am deeply ashamed of what those two countries have become. Sorry, I'll die abroad.

Germanic tribes from ca. 100 AD until 300 AD.The area of modern-day Germany in the European Iron Age was divided into the (Celtic) La Tène horizon in Southern Germany and the (Germanic) Jastorf culture in Northern Germany. The predominant Y-chromosome haplogroup in Germans is R1b, followed by I and R1a; the predominant mitochondrial haplogroup is H, followed by U and T.
You need a real psychiatric examination. Haitians are not in the Dominican republic because they love it, they're there because they have no other choice and that passers from both side of the border, are encouraging them to migrate illegally. They are lurred by jobs the same way the Mexicans are invading the United States.
The main accomplice is your own governmen which closes its eyes and turn its head, because, in a certain way, this traffic profit to the low cost development of your country. So, stop insulting my country and my people. Do your research, in 1986 after the fall of Baby Doc Duvalier, a pan North American survey showed that 86% percent of all Haitians living in Canada and the United States wanted to go back to their country.
Our peasants whouldn't invade your land if your own corrupted industrials and officials wouldn't entice them. For the sake of some real gentleman here, I am going to ignore you, but just imagine that I hang you by the
There are no paranoid Haitians here, there are only ones who are facing the living facts every single day of their life.
But with a 9 trillions deficit projected for the next decade beginning next year, the United States is dangerously flirting with unsolvancy and bankrupcy, and you know that if they go down, the whole danm' world goes down the economic sink with them.
There needs to be a strong country or group of countries acting as policemen against the evil extremists , the terrorists throughout the world but the price of vigilance is high.
The other alternative is to have all the factoriees in Haiti and keep the labour force there !!
I would prefer for any Zona Franca or company in general which hires predominantly Haitians to relocate in Haiti and take all the Haitains they hire with them than to keep them in DR and cause so many problems to society in DR.
Go keep the same talk with your insdustrialists from the construction and agriculturarl departments, you can add the politicians on the list too. Tell your agricultors to stop encouraging the passers that fuels the illegal migrant trade and tell your government to impose fines and/or hefty prison terms to them instead of swelling your throat and pointing your racist fingers at my people. I don't you would have had any problem to see us invade your country if we were light skin or white.
As far as I am concerned it is primarily my government's fault for not having cared enough for those folks, but as I said before, tell your people to stop encouraging them to come to replace your laxy asses in hard labouring jobs before hypocritly spiting on them.
I can't relax when every time you need a scapegoat you decide to pick the Haitians living on your territory. I am not pleased either to see them invading your country like a population fleeing some kind of natural desaster. But you must acknowldege first that those passers, your agricultors, construction contractors and even your government have not ceased to make it easy for them to cross illegally into your country.
You must scream and yell after them first before taking on my people, because if the situation was reversed the Dominicans would have done the same to us like in the 1920 and 40s. So, if someone needs to relax my friend it is the one that are crying falsely foul play while knowing what is going on. If you need to stop the invasion, first stop the passers and impose heavy fine on anyone hiring an illegal immigrant, and not only haitian then, enforce the laws. As long as you don't do that you'll still be screaming after the Haitians.
keep on the good work guys hahahahaha!!
First off I am not a racist because I am Mulato with a white mother and a black grandmother on my fathers side! For your info I have said many times that these soldiers in the border need to get arrested if found allowing haitians into the country. It is not a color thing its a money thing. If you guys were rich I wouldnt care because you wouldnt be taking from my country you would be apporting to my country. Your people's government needs to do something to keep them in their country period. My government needs to enforce its borders and keep all illegal immigrants out of our country! Whomever doesnt like it, thats too dam bad! We are an independent nation noone can tell us what to do with the nation Juan Pablo Duarte, Sanchez Y Mella left for us!
Your new comments show even more subtil racism than the previous ones. You just try to hide it under a nebulous sense of "duty to the motherland". When someone is a die hard nationalist, he must be like my friends and I, his nationalism should not be occasional, and be actively vectored toward a certain group or aimed at some kind of demagogic ideal.
I don't see your patriotism when the US is humiliating your country by publicly cancelling such a high profile figure of your country : an Admiral of your own armed forces. I don't see your patriotism when the world's press headlines your brethren being lost in the Mona passage in order to Porto Rico. I should have seen your nationalism shooting red canon balls at your government which has turn your country like mine into an IMF client state.
No, all I see is someone that is trying to take the racism coat off his body after finding out that it doesn't fit him that well.
I post send you this link. Take a good look at it, it shows poor Mexicans living in the San Juaquin Valley in California. There situation is almost the same as the one the Haitians are living in your country with the exception that the Americans don't treat them the same way you're treating us.
Just put in your mind that a lot of thing can change in ten years, and that the situation existing now between your country and mine could reverse.
That time, I'd pay dearly to see your hypocrit face seeking economic refuge way west of the island the same way we're looling east now.
Before you try to insult someone, go educate yourself, and maybe you'll succeed to shut him or her up.
You will hardly find a forum for hate here my friend, common sense and educated people have decided to ignore hatemongers, and you risk to find yourself alone if you have nothing to day than to promote hatred under a false nationalism. Go reprogram yourself my friend, you version of windows is way outdated.
You can't paint everyone with the same brush my man.
You do that and I will be more than ready to keep an attentionate and condescending ear at your complaints, otherwise just shut it up because you have no ground to accuse those folks of invading willfully your country.
