Santo Domingo.- Hacienda minister Vicente Bengoa said he agrees with the direct transfer, by the mining company Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Corporation (PVDC), of the 5 percent the payment from the net profits for the various communities of Sanchez Ramirez province (northeast), resulting from the gold sulfide operations.

The official, in a missive to the Senate’s Hacienda and Budget Commission president  Tommy Galan, states the Government’s position regarding the Barrick Gold’s contribution from the profits in the mine located near the city Cotuí.

The initiative is similar to the formula used in the nickel ore mining operation by the Canada-based Falconbridge Dominicana, which allocates part of its profits to the various towns of Monseñor Noel province (central).
