Santo Domingo.- Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rúa yesterday hailed the quality  of the repairs to the Constanza highway and called it "a real reconstruction," with the most modern technology it has been periodically subjected to since 2007.

"Since October 4 that year when president Leonel Fernandez inaugurated the reconstruction works at a cost of 41 million dollars, the strategic alliance between this department and the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht has adhered to the chronogram designed for the road also called Casabito,” which he said is interrupted only by the rainy season’s frequent landslides.

Diaz’s statement is in response to a recent editorial in news source diariolibre.com, criticizing the vital link to Constanza’s "frequently announced” reconstruction, which he acknowledges as “alarmingly perilous” and an impediment for that town’s development.

However the Public Works minister affirms that given Odebrecht’s experience and international prestige, their alliance sets a true precedent in the Caribbean’s mountain highways.

This is good news only so far the government's commitment to maintain this road. Nature has its own schedule and government has only so much money.

I would like to see a list of the Public Infrastructure that the PRD has built in the DR? Having visited the DR since the early 1970's I can say that the only two Govenments that ever appeared to have Government Agencies working were those of Balaguer and Fernandez. At least they made you do something before you made off with your "propina!"
