National Palace, Haiti.

SANTO DOMINGO.- A Dominican construction company will build Haiti’s new Presidential Palace, to be reportedly located in a zone just 40 kilometers from the border with Dominican Republic, now at around 80 kilometers.

The work, which will replace Haiti’s collapsed House of Government in the January 12 earthquake in Port-au-Prince, would cost US$40 million and the first allotment from international funds contributed in aid were already disbursed.

Haiti’s National Palace, the Parliament, the Cathedral and other public buildings located in its capital were toppled by the quake, which also seriously damaged the structures of the Finance, Labor, Communication and Culture ministries and the Palace of Justice.

The international community is currently drafting an ambitious plan for the reconstruction of Haiti.

Remember we don't need to pick up a gun to voice our frustrations. We can pick up the phone and call our senators and lobby for our "other" country. Political influence that really works too. There's dozens of Dominican American millionares, all of us can have a huge effect on policy if instead of writing on DT write to fulano's website of whatnot.

What this article did leave out it's France that will pay for this. I guess DR will get the contract. But hey if you guys do not want the work because you feel the new National Palace will be too close to your border go ahead make some noise. There is a lot of construction co in the US that will take it. According to the press conference Preval gave yesterday which was written about in Le Monde " France has agreed to rebuilt the Haiti National Palace identicaly as it was. Nothing was said about a new location.

Side note- According to the AP for each USD of aid money so far the Haitian gov gets less than one cent in cash. The aid is administered by int'l organisation. The DR gets less then half a cent on each dollars to cover hospital cost and so on it incurs while helping Haiti.

"France has agreet to rebuilt the Haiti National Palace identicaly[sic] as it was. "

In my opinion the building wasn't that attractive to begin with. So in what city are they planning to build said building in?

That is excellent news that they are moving the seat of government away from congested PAP.
If that is the case, somebody is really planning with some brains and looking at the future.
The Dominicans builders of course, and I assume with their Brazilian partners, will place some strategic microphones inside the cement walls, like the Russians did in the American embassy in Moscow.
Just kidding! LOL.
Regarding the Frenchy frogs, sure they want a piece of the action, after all how much did they contribute to the Haitian relief effort? An automobile first aid kit and half empty bottle of Evian?

'' The fear of men brings a snare''
And like his President , Josean has caved in to public opinion and now that he has found a seat at the round table ,he too will be able to buy shares of the waffle house corporation . Only since Wallace removed the hood of Robert the Bruce has the Dominican world seen a greater betrayal,. But I have Faith, that one Day an even greater saga then the ''making of Martha'' will be written. When Prince Gen kisses Josean and he finally wakes up and frees himself from the chain of opinons that are choking him, he will complete his 12 step rehab program , rise up and lead his band of brothers (with Martha holding the flag and the condoms) on to the battle field to reclaim what is thiers. Then , they will look over thier shoulder and see a funny lookin IRISH/ITALIAN White boy on a white horse in thier midst and Jo the Bruce will ask him ,'' what is HE doing with us '' and I will say ,'' ''Did not the almighty send me to watch your back '' lol lol lol .

40 mil??????? Why doesn't this money go building homes for those desperate families, especially the ones with chidren. Unless there's going to be some significant changes in government, I say he should get a tent. ...building a nice, comfortable palace for the government to continue running its corruption business.

FORTY MILLION DOLLARS?????? Are they out of their minds??? They are again --as usual--overlooking the people!! Build a lean to for the President--he certainly doesn't deserve even that much---WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE??? THERE ARE UNTOLDS THOUSAND DEAD, THOUSANDS INJURED AND SUFFERING, NO HOMES, NO FOOD, (thousands of orphaned children in the streets).....SURROUNDED BY DEATH AND DESTRUCTION AND THEY WANT A "PALACE"???? This is outrageous and exactly why Haiti has been the poorest place in the hemisphere...GREED AND CORRUPTION! How about a modest office building to house what they sadly refer to as Government? How about ousting the President and what is left of Parliment and starting fresh? This is the best oppoprtunnity that Haiti has ever been given to Rebuild, Renew and Repair they entire country and it's pathetic government, albeit the worst way to do it. Give the money to the PEOPLE!
I am outraged!

LEONEL STOP THIS BS. LET"S WORK ON DOMINICAN SOIL. FIX DR FIRST.

This is not about WAR DRUMS, this is about national pride, identity, and power strugle.

In 500+ years, what have they created and put together? Nothing, right!!!

Is that what you want? 500+ years of nothing. We already got plenty of our own ppl that do not understand what the past, present, and much less their future looks like?

And the fact, someone even thinks of uniting these two parts is an abomination to us DOMINICANS.

This is not about WAR DRUMS, this is about what's right? Dominicans for Dominicans, and for only those who are willing to bring positivism.

I know it's hard for some to understand, however after 500+ years we are this far, and if we keep working for a better future we'll get it.

Therefore, we should eliminate any threat at whatever cost!!

It is an excellent idea to have the Haitian palace built closer to the Haitian - Dominican border. A least the turbulent , selfish, and greedy adolescents who usually run Haiti would be closely supervised by their older and more mature Dominican elders.

It also seems that the dirty elite who was waiting to put their hands on some of the money to reconstruct Port-au-Prince will not be so lucky after all.

I support moving the seat of government from PaP and decentralizing the capital; however, as for Dominicans building Haitian palace, I don't know....it just doesn't seem correct. There is also fact that we are known for shoddy work, appreciable cost overruns, etc, etc. I would rather we would be awarded other parts of the infrastructure.

Could we instead sell Haiti the METRO?

A F-ing palace? These short-sighted people have their heads up their culos. What these fools don't get is that there is NO MORE Haitian gov't.

Haiti is now an international commonwealth.
