It is really pathetic the kind of circle dancing I am witnessing. Seizing those charcoal ovens and their production will not deterred the Haitians and Dominicans "campesinos" to keep cutting your forest. The best way to protect what remains of wooden areas in the islanc, is to have a brigade or two of honest and non corrupted border patrol rangers who will make sure that a border is what it is : a line dividing two countries and not a sifter where common citizens and criminals will go through like coffe in the making.
When the Dominican government will get serious about it, that burden will fixed for good. But keep ignoring the problem and/or pretending to try to solve it won't lead two countries nowhere.
Haiti is a handicaped state, and it is obvious that, with its limited economic capability, it won't be able to do anything significant about managing its border.
Therefore, it is you the Dominicans to stop crying and to take matter into your own hands and stop the bleeding.

I am not a Dominican, therefore I should feel glad about the situation in your country, but as an islander fitted with kinship and solidarity, I can't see your government dropping its arms that way in front of those tremendous problems you people are facing.
I sincerily think that you need another Duarte, because the politicians and your actual elite are selling you and your country to the highest bidder.
Why is it that the Dominican Republic, which is boasting about having the second armed forces in the Carribean, and is recognized as an economic dragon, is not being able to manage 350 kms of border line? Why is it unable to get rid of corruption which is syphoning a big chunk of the country GDP? Why can't it catch and machin gun the cocaine traffickers like they do it in Asia?

Why not erecting seven official border crossings (one every 50 kms) and link them with well paved roads and flanking each one of them with a police station within a few kms of the border crossing? Why not training and paying accordingly a well disposed brigade of border rangers who will patrol the frontier and will be ready to stop and arrest even the Pope if he tries to sneak illegally into your country or to pass some illegal products?
I don't understand why with a 60 billions dollars economy, you can't manage to implement such wise tactics and policies, instead of buying pieces of junk that won't be of any usefulness against those smart and bold morons who want to use the border as their bread winner.

Do you really thing the proceeds of auctions will find their way out of the pockets of the auctioneers?
