SANTO DOMINGO.- Internal Taxes Agency (DGII) interim director Germania Montas on announced Wednesday the electronic contest "MagNIFico," aimed at motivating citizens to demand their tax-numbered receipts on purchases to reduce tax evasion.

The customers who demand their receipts will qualify for 20 monthly prizes of RD$15,000 pesos, two of RD$100,000 and one for RD$500,000.

To compete consumers need only to register the data in their receipts with the printed tax numbers, or NIF and fill out their personal data in the section "MagNIFico" contest in the Website www.dgii.gov.do, or via phone no. 809-689-3444.

The winners will be chosen via electronic drawings held the last Monday of every month in the program Chévere Night, Telesistema, Channel 11, which airs from 10 to 11 p.m.

The first drawing will be Sunday, September 25, and the last on January 31, with the participation of all the receipts reported in the period, and will qualify for a final half million peso prize.

Good move. How about a call free number to report corruption in both private and public affairs? People lovvvvvvvvvvve ratting out their neighbors. That's how police get a good deal of their information. Give people a bonus for doing so; although I would just leave them, at first, to derive the great pleasure in seeing some corrupt operation or individual pay-up for his/her hubris. Try it, it just might force more people into compliance.
