SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Business Council (Conep) affirmed Sunday that Haiti’s authorities discriminate Dominican exports with taxes on inflated values, above those applied to the same products from other countries.

In a statement Conep president Lisandro Macarrulla said the Haitian authorities should understand that the Dominican Republic is one of the biggest employers of those citizens, and that type of distortion on Dominican exports affects Dominican Republic’s productive sector.

He added that as a result of that practice Haiti is flooded with products from different parts of the world, and which compete unfairly with those from Dominican Republic.

So I'll just say unlike the rest of the world the Dominican Republic has to unfairly deal with most of Haiti’s problems and get discriminated upon by the rest of the world and Haitians for helping them cope with their problems.

full access to the Haitian Market is not a Dominican birthright. Last I check Haiti is a sovereign country and is not breaking any internationally recognized trade agreement with DR. If you choose to leave your border wide open thats your problem.

Sidenote- according to IBD while remittence to Haiti annually is 1.7 billion usd, only 30 mil of that come from the Dom Rip while that one way trade to Haiti is worth close to 1 billion usd to the Dominican economy. Spare us the Bull shit.

DR is the only country connected to Haiti by land.

Anyone who knows anything about the harbours in Haiti, mainly PAP, will prefer shipping by sea to DR and truck their containers to the Haitian side.

So, shut the border for real, and let them try to use their harbour as port of entry.

They'll call home for help.

I simply do not understand this and would like to have confirmation that the statement is correct ..why would the Haitians put a special tax only on Dominican goods ?? and I hardly think Haiti is flooded with goods from other countries . I would treat the statement from CONEP with suspicion as I am sure that I have read that Dominican exports to Haiti are at a record high .

I only wish it were true.

Haiti should indeed impose higher tariff on dominican goods being dumped in haiti.

All relations with DR should be reduced AT ALL COST.

DR has no birth right to the Haitian market....and Haitian migrants have no birth right to entering DR territory.

so you'll punish haiti by closing the ports in DR (money is made by the DR govt) and stop trucking the containers to haiti (DR truckers/gas/other products or services are used). this is the intelligent comment you come up with. Jesus man some of you guys on this forum are

Trade between neighbouring countries is often tricky especially with products that are produced in both countries. There are some crazy taxes that the U.S. imposes on Canadian goods and we are supposed to have a "Free Trade Agreement"....

Finally , I have found the article in the DiarioLibre from 10 november pointing out that exports to Haiti are at a record high at present and are led by clothing, synthetic material , cement and foodstuffs ,,there has been growth every year since 2005 ,
so things are not too bad although I was surprised that the total annual exports to Haiti are less than 700 million dollars ..not a lot but our total exports are only around the 2 billion mark .
I can not find this article in any newspaper so I am wondering about the source.

AHAHAHHAHAHAHHA

I have to laugh, becaue we are so used to the MARRULLA that happens in our countries. Just think about this. These numbers that you are posting on this forum are about 30% of the business that happens between the 2 countries. Dominicans and Hatians tiguerasos have their huge business going on under the table.

yes I suppose you are correct and I was only quoting the official figures which , as I remarked , surprised me because they were so low ..but if the under the table goods are hidden from official reords I guess then they cross the border free from taxes and are only subject to the normal propinas

If we decompose the word 'haitiens,' phonetically we get 'Hai Siens' = qui hait les siens (One who hates his own)

Telemeco knows the old adage that you need to know your enemies better than your friends, behind the fake smiles of Haitians lies a hatred for our people and our country .They want to achieve by sheer numbers what they could not do like men in the battlefield!

I do not understand what you say: your people take care dominicans for year? o abuse dominican for years? get benefit fom our lands for years. but this is past and we got over and try to coop with our neighbors but you are not easy and never learn to say thanks( is only a small group not the majority). then you say that our women have 20 children before are 15? I quite believe you maybe is talking about your own women who start having children at age 10 from distortion incest families who abuse their own children. and last but not least, how about academy educacion,? do yo see the average of dominican who graduate from college in the usa , is very hight, and must of the hospital the director is dominican, can you say the same for you guy? te majority have not opportunity to go school. I do not say you can do better but you have to fight for it and do not use your time critized a neighbor who running first when you need it and critized. next time say hello to 1 dominican

four ,it's not worth it ..Haitians don't listen ,that's why they are in such a horrible state.Haitians see the world collapsing around them and have blindfolds and headphones playing Haiti Cherie ,we are the greatest etc. and of course the old ..it's everyone else's fault .

The Haitian population is increasing at a far greater pace than ours so I guess it is the cochonettes haitiannes who are multiplying like rats !

What you don't realise is that "karma" is b__itch slapping Haiti for all the evil they have done and are still doing not only practising witchcraft but even elevating demon worship to a state religion!

Not to mention the modern day restavik slaves .Haiti was born from hatred and has lived in hatred from the beginning and only a complete and absolute change can turn Haiti around but the few Haitians of good will and some brains are either killed or forced into exile so I don't see much of a chance!

I say the hell with Haitians let them eat mud pies, or as they call them "bon bon tares." They are extremely corrupt, that's why, they find themselves in the shape they are.

It's unfortunate...However it is inappropriate to judge all Haitians from what some of them are saying or doing - especially when you might know that the current government is desperate because they no longer have the popular support they once had.
I don't think they are discriminating as well...it might simply be administrative issues...
I deal a lot with Haitians customs and I do know some individuals play with the taxes however they choose too anytime...So you guys may have to simply put on some more pressure to get things done.

Finally, i have a lot of Dominican friends and I witnessed the great sympathy of the Dominicans right after January 12th quake... I think that close all differences...and I'm personally willing to shut up any Haitian about to badmouth the Dominicans. So, i suggest some of you to be wiser and help Haiti grow for the good sake of everyone. Just a little patience!

I also speak on behalf of the Haitians TRUE PATRIOTS USA.

you can only speak on your own behalf.

@Antichrist: Nobody elected me to speak on behalf of all Haitians...However I can speak on behalf of 1000 active members of TRUE PATRIOTS who is the group I represent in the Haitian diaspora, and we are a closed group. Haiti is the way it is right now especially because too many illiterate and uninformed or uneducated folks think they can always choose who can represent them...and guess what? for about 206 year this huge majority has been often very wrong... it's time to accept reality.
Anyway, my comment was not about polemic nor confrontation...Bottom message is we share the island and we have a lot in common, so we need to look for compromise and peace!
And the great respect I personally have for President Leonel Fernandez is the same respect I suppose some other Haitians have...
We have a huge network and I can assure you that thousand of Haitians share my views!

@ patriot

very interesting....and when will your group move into action?

I also hope your group is aware that for most of these 206 years....the illiterate/uninformed/uneducated folks have not chosen their representatives or government.

So blaming them is a bit of a stretch...don't you think???
