Santo Domingo.- The Government began the works to rebuild the Constanza-Jarabacoa highway in central La Vega province at a cost of more than US$71 million, the Public Works Ministry announced Tuesday.

The road, whose construction was declared urgent by the Executive Branch in August, is built with the latest engineering technologies, the same implemented in the Duarte highway–Constanza road.

“The work on the road’s first 6 kilometers includes a 6 kilometer road to take the debris from the cutting of the hillsides,” Public Works said in a statement, adding that the studies determined that a 10 centimeter layer of concrete was necessary to stabilize and protect the surface, with 10 meter long anchors spaced at 2.0 meters, perpendicular to the slope face.

The new 27 kilometer long highway, being built by the contractor is Norberto Odebrech with supervision by the company COINSA, features two, 3.3 meter wide lanes, with a total width of 6.6 meters.

The can not even manage to fix the chunk of road that fell off the clif between Santiago and SAJOMA... I saw a pick up truck in the gutter on day, looks like he was trying to avoid someone in that spot

It baffles me that Obredetch is building the new dam at Las Placetas/Los Limones, yet the very road they use to get all their equipment up there is totaly useless. Ive given up on visitin the high Sierra because this road is so horrible. Not even SUVs can take so much abuse. I was in Jarabacoa last week and the road was pretty good, getting there from Santiago was a snap. The Sajoma Moncion road is so badly needed as well, lots of people are deterred from visting this area as well because of the road. Xwill ask Santa, maybe he will build it for you.
