Santo Domingo.-The works on the first stage of the Santo Domingo Metro’s second line have almost concluded, and in March will arrive a modern tunneling machine to begin at the entrance of the subdivision Los Alcarrizos and reach the Maximo Gomez with Kennedy intersection.

Transport Reform Office (Opret) assistant director Leonel Carrasco said the work will cost around 700 million dollars and identified the location of its 14 stations, and whose first stage will arrive only until Maximo Gomez, although the original project would’ve reached San Luis, Santo Domingo East.

He said the Opret aims to provide Dominicans with the services of the first stage of the Metro’s Second Line, by the end of president Leonel Fernandez’s current tenure.

they need to have an adults only train that runs at night that has a bar and stripper girls... Trust me they would sell many tickets... The train would have to run at a slower speed

Can you imagine if PRD should by a freak of nature win the presidency some day
how these trains are going to be sold off by pieces and just destroyed altogether?

Hay Dios Mio Que Nunca Gane el PRD! I'll feel sorry for anyone riding those things if
PRD should 1 day be in admin.

Mr Jarabacoa, i don't mean to kill the mood, But let New York be New York, and let Santo Domingo be Santo Domingo. DR needs it's own identity, Not mimicking other countries.

Yes, the Santo Domingo-Santiago train will be more important and I can't wait for its construction to start, but that train is not part of the Santo Domingo Metro, it's something else. It'll be a passenger/cargo train connecting Santo Domingo and Santiago, the 2 biggest cities in the DR.

Anyone who has ridden both the Santo Domingo Metro and the NYC MTA knows that Santo Domingo definitely has its own identity and the two are completely different.

I doubt if Josean is against the concept of proper public transport in this vast city of Santo Domingo ..it was the choice of route on the first metro that was so unbelievable and the useage bears this error out .But a rail system makes sense ,,you only have to see the chaos on the roads to appreciate that we need a diiferent form of public transport ..whether it is a skytrain as in Bangkok or an underground

I agree with the need of a 2nd line if the need was there(is it there?)We are talking about US $700
million dpllars . That money could go into electrifying the entire island with 5 thermo-electric plants with a capacity of 175 mw each at a cost of US 157 mn @.for a total of US$780mns, and no more (apagones) Either way it would had been built with borrowed money. This would atract investors due to sufficient energy for them to operate their equipment and will pay for themselves in form of taxes. The figures above were taken as an example from the one been built in Cuba with borrow money from Venezuela at 3% and they provide the fuel at a minimum cost to run the same. This was agreed on beteen the 2 countries back in 2007. This information came straight from Venezuela via ZUR TV. and could electrify the entire Caracas region as a back up when the river to the DAMS fall bellow generating capacity due to drout, which is hard to believe with ORINOCO as a tributary to the AMAZON river.

Sorry for the misunderstanding Jarabacoa. you are right on that perspective. Now don't think that Im a party pooper, but i dont think we need a 2nd line though, there are too many taxis and buses that can move people everywhere in the city or outside. The money should be better invested in electric plants mentioned by Mr Thelmo Almeyda Rancier, fix roads, education, and finally perhaps the 2nd line. After all we need sufficient energy to power up the rails. Putting up a 2nd line doesn't necessary means that we are advancing since the education level is apalling, and without knowledge, culture, and unity, there is no advancement.

Nothing brings out the closeted LIE-onelitas like the announcement of BILLIONS of PESOS about to be wasted!

Notice how the LIE-onelitas here on DT have been missing in action as their Presidente has allowed the NARCOS to take over the country but come out in Orgasmic Grandeur as the NARCO DICTATOR builds another little election gimmick toy!

Since education and electricity are not a priority, now your illiterate children will be able to ride from their DARK homes to their Dark dysfunctional Schools, on their way to become part of the underestimated 50% drop out rate at the Universities.

That’s if “The Progress Train” takes them even that far!

While LIE-onel Fernandez borrows Billions of dollars so the next generation has to pay for his useless re-election toys he lets our National Heritage deteriorate:

PATRIMONIO CULTURAL

Una cultura entre luces y sombras

En 37 años, el Museo del Hombre Dominicano ha visto el deterioro lento y progresivo de su patrimonio cultural.
