SANTO DOMINGO.- President Leonel Fernandez yesterday met with the ministers of the Treasury Vicente Bengoa and of Public Works, Victor Diaz, to design measures aimed at repairing the Jimaní highway, currently the main route for international aid to reach Haiti.
Bengoa said most of the aid is arriving in Haiti by land because its ports collapsed and the airport is occupied, making it necessary to fix the road but didn’t specify a date. He said the situation has led the authorities to repair that highway.
The official also said he spoke with Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) executives and they pledged US$180 million to build highways within Haiti, which can link both nations. “That’s because when those tractor trailers and trucks full of aid begin to use a highway that is bad, it’s a problem which can paralyze transit ."
Bengoa said the IDB informed him that they have US$130 million available and the remaining US$50 million would be disbursed gradually.
He added that the Central American Integration Bank, “stated its interest in donating US$200,000 to help the neighboring nation, funds which would be channeled through Dominican Republic.

you're right ,follow the money. DR has to pay for all the loans that Old Leo borrowed.Loans that should be collecting interest because none of the projects are fininshed. Now lets wonder how the funds are being dispured. Leo, I mean DR should be making good returns on all that loot that is put away.
Good Job Leo, for stepping up to the plate, now lets see if you could follow through. The world is watching.

ladies and gentlemen I will give the DR credit for one thing. The offering of Baharona as the new temporary airport into Haiti means that the Airport will probably have permanent routes even after the Aid dries up.
So anything that is done to facilitate the decades long rebuilding plan that the international community has planned that makes it so more of the traffic stops off in the DR first even if for a night or two is an economic jolt for the DR.
My view is probably the same as most on this board. Even if this were an above board proposal who is going to be having their hands in the cookie jar. Because every other thing touched seems to be rotten.

80cent of each dollar earned by the Haitian government had to go to servicing this debt, leaving only 20cents to go to matters of the state, such as education, health care, infrastructures. The last installment of this debt was finally paid in 1947. Please know your facts before coming to a public forum to talk shit about matters you do not know anything about.while trying to sound educated. You might want to read The Black Jacobin by CLR Lewis it is consider a master piece in the subject of Haitian history . It was written in 1938 and still highly regarded today. Now, that even the DR regime, in the article above, acknowledges that the bulk of the aid flows from the DR into Haiti and not from the US imperialist-controlled seaports and airports in Haiti into Haiti, everybody , but the reactionary riff raff, sees that neither the international donors nor DR nor the Haitians trust the imperialist thieves occupying Haiti.
As for the repair of main highway to Haiti, Preval and LF are trying to get the main international donors, a group to which the US imperialists don't belong, to focus of immediate needs of the Haitian people, not phony but grand schemes for "future" reconstruction of Haiti. If the main highway from the DR to Haiti falls apart, this will help the US imperialists because the aid will then have to go through imperialist-controlled facilities in Haiti. And, the imperialist, with the morality of the 60 PR doctors on Facebook, will steal all the aid.

"Haiti, with 76 per cent of its population below the poverty line, paid $60 to $80 million a year in debt service over the last decade. In addition, it was subjected to an aid embargo from 2001 to 2004 in an effort to topple the government, seen as left-leaning. Haiti was still paying off its debt of US$ 1.7 bn when the devastating 2008 hurricanes hit, with budgeted debt service payments of over $1 million every week," see

"The poverty line" is living off less than $2 per day.
About half of the foreign debt of Haiti was signed by former President Duvalier, a puppet imposed by imperialism. The other half is late charges on the Duvalier debt. US imperialists and international financial institutions, the US imperialists control, refuse to forgive the debt and the late chargest, even after the four 2008 hurricanes and 2010 earthquake.
This makes the DT slime that echos imperialist interests rejoice.

Why is the US there in such number.
Part it is in we are neighbors.
The other we want them to stay in their yard.
Bottom line folks the US wants to get Haiti on its feet as fast as possible for the same reason that the |DR does. The faster and higher up the economic ladder that Haiti can be the less of the Haitian people will feel compelled to try to head out.
That is the dirty little secret that everyone knows but no one is saying officially.

"A generous world has flooded Haiti with donations, but anger and desperation are mounting as the aid stacks up inside this broken country," the AP, the largest propaganda outlet of the bourgeois media, reports
"Bottlenecks at key transportation points and scattered violence, including an armed group's attack on a food convoy, have slowed the distribution of food and medicine from the port, airport and a warehouse in the Cite-Soleil slum," AP reports
" 'Aid is bottlenecking at the Port-au-Prince airport. It's not getting into the field,' said Mike O'Keefe, who runs Banyan Air Service in Fort Lauderdale," the AP reports.

All three of the AP statements are imperialist lies.
This aid is not getting to the "broken country," the "slum" or "the field" because DOD contractors are stealing aid and exporting it from Haiti to be resold.
Most aid now comes from the DR and it gets through.

To send aid to the Haitian people, donors should ship it to facilities controlled by the DR or the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba because the US imperialists in Haiti are worthless.
The Windward Passage that separates Cuba from Haiti is only 80 km wide.
And, except for the shipment of 225,000 barrels of oil (various petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, heating oil, airline fuel, etc.) from Venezuela, the greedy US imperialists haven't so far interfered with aid brought in from the DR or Cuba.
Both the DR and Cuba know Haiti very well.
The 225,000 barrels of Venezuelan aid went thur the DR.
Most likely, the Cuban workers at airports and seaport in Santiago de Cuba will make accomodations for foreign repesentatives of aid donors to monitor aid shipments to Haiti.
Cuba , with 1000 Cuban -educated doctors in Haiti, is obvious place to send medical aid for Haitians.
US imperialists will never allow their operations in Haiti to be monitored.
