SANTO DOMINGO.- Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia announced Thursday that Dominican Republic will support and promote real estate tourism, for which it confirmed its participation in Madrid’s International Real Estate Salon: SIMA 2010 Fair, slated from May 20 to 23.

"For the first time the country will have a stand in this concurred event endorsing the Dominican business sector, taking advantage of its "Country Brand" strength which will be strengthened," the official said.

"There were times when our real estate leaders and designers went to this type of event alone; this Ministry, representing the Dominican Government will be supporting them with all means and will even develop a marketing plan for their benefit," Garcia said.

He said real estate tourism developers will have a stand to promote their business and initiatives such as the large hotel chains. “This stand will be an excellent platform, either to find co-investors for their projects or for a place to sell properties to the coveted market of end users who’ll go to this important international business event.”

"For Dominican promoters who decide to attend, heeding the Tourism Ministry’s call, this fair guarantees them the launch of a national and international ad campaign and unrivaled news coverage, with occasional specials on the fair in major newspapers, as well as radio and television network coverage, and also features a wide presence in top real estate Web sites and other Internet based advertising," the Tourism chief says.

He said in addition to real estate tourism developers, hotel chains, mortgage and investment banks, insurance companies, consultants and professionals with media presence will also attend the SIMA fair, which has gained fame as the place to meet agents for real estate offers, and where more than 63,000 people attended last year.

LIE-onel Fernandez has developed his own version of the Community Reinvestment Act.

It’s called the Narco-Laundering Act, in fact you don't even have to have money he will provide government financing, the only qualification is that a you are a Narco and being foreign also doesn't hurt!

All come with a guarantee of a Presidential Pardon should one of those pesky judges not get with the program!

Just more dirty money coming to buy real estate in DR, and than the Gov confiscating the property and putting the money in there own pockets.

what the heck is real estate tourism? who coined the term? am i to believe that it means the invitation of foreigners to buy property here? that is real estate transactions, not tourism. maybe if they could get the terminologies correct at the outset, the concepts would be easier to follow.

Much better to have a house in Santiago than the beach.... Unless you are a sea person, the beach gets old... If you stay at the resort all is included lol

And Santiago doesn't?

I spent 3 WEEKS in Santiago 1 DAY. Santiago is the Chicago of the D.R. A place for people who can't hack it in a real city.

A huge swatch of the DR economy benefits from real estate tourism. All sorts of suppliers of food and services suppliers for example. Plus people of talent base their international businesses in the DR moving the DR to being the Singapore of the Caribbean. The DR isn't quite smart enough yet at capturing taxes - but in time. Good health services, pensions, housing for DR people can be built on this base as people leave the evil empire of the US to exploit this unrivaled opportunity that is truly once in a lifetime and also enjoy a unique and special lifestyle overflowing with consideration for exemplary human values - not those of US capitalist pigs.So shout the news from the rooftops!

In spain traditionally and indvidual bought an apartment/ villa. For part of the year it was used by the owner or immediate family/ friends and for the other part let out. Sometimes it is for a winter home; sometimes for limited residence.

Dreadllocks,
Real Estate tourism is like any other second home or Vacation home area. Hamptons, Wellington, Marthas Vineyard, Block Island, Fire Island, Mt. Snow, Stowe and many many more. These people eat at restaurants, buy in Stores, ski slopes, Casinos etc.. People/Tourists have second homes and support areas while they are in residence. Same people who used to stay in a hotel now have second homes in these areas.

Not really hard to figure out now was it?

xw - Prices are extremely low for a very extended tourist season. Exceptional bargains are being snapped up.
For example if you buy in Cerler in the Spanish Pyrenees the tourist season is short but prices are higher. If you buy in the Swiss Alps the tourist season is good but prices are higher.

what you say makes sense, Escott. then again, at what point does real estate end, and tourism begin? you characterise the guys with second homes in , say, Cape Cod, as real estate tourists. how about a guy who has a home in Brooklyn, and one in Bayside, in which he spends his free time? is he a real estate tourist? if not, why not?
