New York.– Unemployment rates in 363 U.S. metropolitan areas rose in January, and 346 areas reported year-on-year declines in their number of jobs, the US Labor Department said Friday.

California has been especially hard hit during the recession that began in late 2007, and the Labor Department data showed the state's jobs situation continues to deteriorate, with an overall unemployment rate of 12.5 percent in January.

The three areas with the highest jobless rates in the country, all above 20 percent, were all located in California, the most populous U.S. state.

Nearly 200 metropolitan areas reported jobless rates of at least 10 percent in January, showing that unemployment problems persist at the local level.

Goodmybe for DR - more Americans can take longer spring breaks in DR without having to worry about thier jobs, Why not relax in DR?
They can build castles in the sand with all the cement the DR is producing.

Nothing like good ol unemployment with TAX, GIVE and CONTROL.

With the US National dept close to 15 TRILLION DOLLARS all in one year thanks to OH'Blama and the projected 24 TRILLION DOLLARS dept and counting by 2012........

I can only wonder........if and when the OH'Blamacare passes who will be left to pay the TAX BILL ? THE UNEMPLOYED ?

At the rate the US is headed under OH'Blama soon the US will a 3rd.....OOP'S !

Not only as tourists. They can find a hectare or so of land and lease it for say 100 dollars a month - then chickens, pigs, yams, home brewing kit, fishing tackle, a small house made of earth blocks or empty beer bottles and boxes or an old container ....... This way the unemployment check will last at least 5 years.

Update: Florida & Virginia just filed Federal lawsuits against the Obama care healthplan saying it's unconstituional forcing citizens to buy a product "healthcare" and 30 other states are expecting to file Federal Lawsuits today or tomorrow. This is a sad day in America as our freedom which we brag about and cherish just went up in smoke! Hey Obama, what's next????? Crack pipes, free drugs, whisky and more to the addicts and poor?

This is STUPID!! The right wing nuts are blaming Obama, the left wing nuts are blaming Bush. Everybody's so ready to fix the blame but nobody's trying to fix the problem. Here's the fix:
Retire every american over 50 with a $1M settlement. Two stipulations..they must either pay off their mortgage or buy a house and they must buy a new American car within 24 months and perform 10 hours a week community service.
Result?
40 million job openings - Unemployment fixed
25 million mortgages paid, 15 million houses purchased - Mortgage/ Housing/ Banking crisis fixed
40 million U.S. autos sold - Auto Industry crisis fixed.

The banks, GM and Chrysler can pay back stimulus loans and the interest will repay the retirement incentive.

40 million retirees available for community service - education and social services fixed.

US unemployment will be good for DR as Dominican companies pick up contracts US organizations no longer have the staff to undertake.
Also US tourist resorts won't be attractive when they resemble ghost complexes...... complete with ghost tourists?
Many Florida areas had much lower occupancy in 2009.

Well put......this morning I like millions in America just woke-up to a differant America with an unkown financial future.
Education lay-offs.
Social Security in shambbles.
15 Trillion dollar dept.
The US, the new nanny state.
etc..etc...='s UNCONSTITUTIONAL
and to think.......poverty and crime go hand 'n' hand.
I believe theres still hope and change, in......2012 starting 2010.

Pleasuretour,
And to think it all started with finger pointing at Bush and is now ending with mutiple fingers being pointed at OH'Blama....OOH'Blama needs to start, by taking responsibility for his actions.
BUSH IS NO LONGER IN OFFICE !

TEMP SOLUTION....
The idea of retireing everybody over 50 ?
Think what you just printed....give 1M and stipulate / control how to spend it.
10 hour community service.....there goes more unemployment, work for free !
UNDERSTAND.....the PROBLEM is, it's all about bigger Government and CONTROL to begin with.

calm down. Nobody's talking Gov't. control of anything here.

The suggested retirement is a buyout offer...Not mandatory.

The house/mortgage and auto stipulations account for only a small percentage of the buyout package.

How they spend the rest is up to the individual. It comes as tax free income and what they spend will be taxed by state and local gov'ts via consumption taxes, already in place.

Volunteers of America, Mentorship programs, Big Brothers/Sisters, Habitat for Humanity and a bazillion other service to others organizations DO NOT create "more unemployment".

of course...if you have a better idea, we're all ears. BTW the stimulus checks started rolling out before President Obama even took office. He inherited the deficit and both dumba$$ wars. Try not to dwell.

Not true.
I have had treatment twice in one of Thailand's top hospitals a regular in lists of the World's best hospitals. The charges were a small fraction of the charges in the US where doctors get 180,000 dollars a year and live in enormous palaces.
I do not rate Florida tourist services and anything special and the sight of all those walruses on the beach.......... Cuba tourism is expanding - this does not happen if the service is poor.

Pleasuretour,
I am calm.....many feel the government IS the solutions to all problems, its not.

If a retirement pay-out was available ask yourself how many would jump at the offer ? even in todays economy.

Cash 4 clunkers a total failure, GM sales are down with big loses.

Re-modification home loans are also in fortclosures.

Tax free income.....who ends up paying in the long run ?

Volunteers ='s no more unemployment......is that a fact, why hire when you can get the job done threw volunteers, nothing like working for free......I say WORK, WORKS !

Looks like under OOH'Blama those stimulis checks will keep on rolling.

As I last recall before the elections OOH'Blama pleaged to end both wars and close Gitmo !

OOH'Blama only inherited 1.5 trillion dollar deficit, how do you account for an estimate 14.5 trillion dollar deficit and counting 1 1/4 years later.

IDEA....controling spending, let buisness do what buisness does best.

Fix whats broken in healthcare only.

Go back to American values and what made America great in the first place.

See I don't have all the solutions but it's a start.

For I forget......employment equals more money, more spending and more taxes.

I can only wonder who's gonna pay for that OOH'Blamacare and the 14.5 TRILLION dollar debt. and counting ? the UNEMPLOYED ?

Take care.

pleasuretour, great ideas on all you presented to fix everything. The problem is this was all planned and engineered by design. Given this, your suggestions will never be implemented. Your ideas are for the sane societies lead by sane governments. The US Govt has long been a corrupt mafia lead by wealthy dark slimy people around the globe with their twisted agendas now being played out by Wall Street and the puppet presidents in place for the past 40 years.

America hasn't seen nothing yet, inflation and we'll be taxed and taxed and then more tax, and get this health care wont kick in until 3 years from now.
Both my Mother and Father voted for OOH'Blama........ NO MORE ! they see the light, more like darkness.
OOH'Blama I bet is counting on the so called 30 plus millions without health care to vote for him in 2012.
CHANGE, HOPE, SPREAD THE WEALTH, LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD making more dependent on Government.
Meanwhile the world economy is watching with disbelief. I could see it now Castro and Hugo-a-go-go are tickled pink by now.

Abc200,
How ?
When US tourist numbers to the DR start droping.
I guess this also means no more loans / funding to the DR.

First:
For the most part DR is not considered a 'luxury destination'. Surverys show that in hard times not so many people give up holidays - they trade down.
Retirees, others when they see hard times ahead and the possibility the stock market, property investments are not going to do so well they choose to spend 1000 dollars/person on a week away not 2000 dollars. DR is strong in this price range. Europe and Canada send plenty of tourists in this price range. This depend on full charter aircraft. There are direct charter flights from 25 cities in Europe. The US protects inefficient airline industry by largely prohibiting external charter flights so airline prices from the US are a barrier. This price barrier of a scheduled service plus a change of plane etc. brands the DR as a luxury destination for those not living near New York, Miami and 2 or 3 other airports.
Loans / funding are complex. Very often funding is available to finance projects where

jobs are genrated in the country making the loan. So for example China would loan for a new railway knowing the Chinese economy would benefit. US export import bank works the same way - making loans for projects that will promote exports from the US.
So when times are difficult more soft loans/ partnerships may be made. Also in parts of the US, Middle East and Europe property investment is a 'no'no' so investors are concentrating on China, Russia, Brazil, DR etc.

Well, it has been seven months and I must say things are not really going the way we all expected. To be precise, the unemployment rates have decreased to an extent but that does not nearly count when compared to the population of the United States of America. What is even more surprising is that these unemployment rates are more profound in the metropolitan cities, rather than other areas which make things only even worse! http://www.taxmatterssolutions.com

It's all documented in history. Unemployment rates are at an all time high right at the beginning of the economic increase. Companies are still hesitant, but they will begin growing in their margins and start to hire on more and more people. It's the way it has always worked. The war is fueling the economy and we will all benefit from it. I predict a very fast increase in the our economic state...just wait. You'll see...

Housing- more employment ='s $ to purchase homes.

Health- more employment ='s $ to purchase good private medical insurance.

Education- a good education ='s good employment ='s $.

Maybe what the U.S also really needs is a new Prez. and a big slash on $ Gov. spending.

Sweden , Denmark are probably the most free and least corrupt societies.

All paid for by the U.S worker / taxpayer.....with higher unemployment where's the money going to come from to pay for it ?

The "U.S needs decent Social Security".....I agree the American worker puts in and at retirement age pulls out.

More like a personal / individual right not a gov. right to good housing, education, health etc..etc..
One has to ask....why would many in America choose not to inbetter ones self ?
Could it be the idea of free intitlements so why bother ?
