Santo Domingo.- The Web site propertyshowrooms.com reports that growing fears about inflation and currency devaluation in European low-to-mid budget property investors returning to the market are likely to have a positive effect on realty sales within Dominican Republic.
“The Caribbean island will benefit from the strengthening international market recovery in 2010. The longer the recovery continues the more confident investors will grow, with low budget developments predicted to be the most popular among individuals with not quite so much money to spend,” the Website said.
It said investors buying in 2009 were predominantly the better off among society. "Dominican Republic property is still the bargain of the Caribbean, and still has one of the fastest growing tourism sectors."
it notes that the sustained growth of the industry is something that could appeal to individuals looking for property. “In October last year Last October, British Airways decided to launch a twice-weekly service to the Dominican Republic to cope with the increasing demand of holidaymakers wanting to visit the island.”

How could Greece’s PM George Papandreou have lectured international and native Socialists on how to conduct their business when his own country was facing such financial difficulties?
Why would George Papandreou advise anyone?
“the progressive and socialist forces have a great responsibility to forge ahead and be carriers of change today that the system has failed.”
Forge Ahead? (P’alante?) Sounds familiar?
Be carriers of change?
That the system has failed?
PM Papandreou is in no condition to advise anyone on what or when to do anything. If any thing, he needs a refresher course in economics and ethics. Europe is burdened by the insolvency of several of its members, and primarily Greece of which Papandreou is the Prime Minister and President.
What ever you do in Quisqueya, don't invite Greek Papandreou to lecture again:

GREAT NEWS......
DISNEY TO OPEN IN PUERTO PLATA......
We’ve got some great new rides planned, some of them will be unique to Disneyland Dominicana. The Valley of Darkness is where people take a trip underground. Every so often, the ride will stop and they’ll be plunged into darkness.”
“Thankfully, we don’t need any special equipment for this. We’ve spoken to the local electricity provider and they’ve assured us that the power will go on and off intermittently anyway, so this ride will be easy to set UP.

The effects of the boom are already noticeable. AZS airport is busier than ever and new businesses are finding a ready market. People who own property on the greek islands are prospecting in the DR. Developers have acted with considerable foresight in anticipating the boom and this means the past acute shortage of desirable properties has been resolved.
We can expect the DR to be the most important Caribbean hub as airports expand. AZS has now links to 17 major cities in N. America and Europe.

You coud say London is ovepriced. In good areas a 2 bedroom will cost 3/4 million dollars plus.
Ditto Miami or more even in Clearwater Beach.
1 milion for 1400 sq. ft. in CB
http://www.sandbarstosunsets.com/....ront-clearwater-beach-condo-cost/In DR in many areas there is excellent property at a very reasonable cost.
Plus incidental expenses are generally much lower than US / Euope.
A restaurant meal runs at about 80 dollars for two compared with 150 London / New York.

Regardless of prices or quality for the price, The DR has a lot to improve on the quality of life for all people, not just the foreign buyers. The 16% flat consumption Tax has to go down with a lot of other costs of living that make the DR uncompetitive.

The cost of living is very low in DR. Consumption tax is about the same as Europe and many prices are much lower. The quality of life for Dominicans needs to increase but this is happening with increased consumptions of meat, chicken, milk, vegetables etc. improving diet. Some good housing is being constructed in the public sector but not enough. A huge increase in mobility has occured through the import of motorcycles. Hospitals, I am informed are improving. Social welfare is being introduced. Education needs, in my opinion, reforming. Lawyers, in huge surplus, need retraining for useful occupations and many technician level courses are needed as are courses in domestic science etc.
However one may ask competitive with where? Tourism has held up well - helped maybe by violence in Mexico etc.
