Santo Domingo.- The power company AES Dominicana and the AES group on Tuesday said it contributes 53.4% of all the energy currently placed in the National Interconnected Electrical System (SENI).

The country’s leading generator said the “historical contribution” would lead to an improvement in the electricity service, with 710 megawatts supplied to the SENI based on the two most competitive fossil fuels in prices and with the most efficient generating plants.

The AES Dominicana plants AES Andres supplies 288 megawatts; AES Los Mina provides 186 and the units at Itabo contribute 236 megawatts to the SENI, the company said in an emailed statement. “AES Dominicana is an important support of the SENI since jointly with the energy production it provides the frequency regulation service, fundamental to maintain the system’s stability.”

Pretty damning when you have a foreign company producing more than half of your total output of energy... AES Dominicana is about as dominican as American Apple Pie. Nothing wrong with that but it sure is telling that a country is having some difficulties supplying their own power.

the issue is not supply. The issue is paying the bills. I have no doubt that if the DR paid its luz bill to the generators we would be down to about 20 hours a day all over the Country and with in a year the capacity would be expanded to meet demand.

Can't wait for the new 100 MW SOLAR PLANT announced 18+ months ago to come on line and solve all the energy problems of the DR, and employ the thousands it promised. Please, please don't tell me it was another fairy tale....I am a true believer, I'll drink the kool-aid. God help the DR and it's good people... If AES could sell out today and recover a portions of it's investment, IT WOULD !!
