Santo Domingo.- Although the country’s exports fell 23% last year as a result of the global economic crisis, Dominican exports to Europe, albeit in a smaller scale compared with 2007, rose by €53.7 million compared with 2008, resulting from the tariff facilities within the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), signed with the European Union (the EU).
According to the Dominican Exporters Association (Adoexpo), the country’s exports fell around US$1.7 billion in 2009.
Exports to Europe in 2008 fell by €264.4 million, going from €806.5 million in 2007 to €542.1 million a year later. Last year however exports rose slightly, by €53.7 million, to total €595.8 million.
