Santo Domingo. - Venezuela president Hugo Chavez will arrive in Dominican Republic tomorrow to sign the deal for a 49 percent stake in the country’s only refinery Refidomsa, local news sources report.
The on-again-off-again deal has bounced between Santo Domingo and Caracas since the start of the year, during which officials of Chavez’s Administration have voiced conflicting views on the merits of the investment.
The reports affirm the agreement for the sale of 49 percent of Refidomsa will be definitely signed tomorrow,” it said quoting a “creditable source, whereas the Presidency's Chief of Staff, César Pina Toribio, affirmed on Monday that the deal would be signed "shortly."
However they neither specifiy the time nor airport via which Chávez will arrive in Santo Domingo, but cited that officials are being invited for several activities, among them a reception for the signing ceremony and a dinner.
The source added that the invitations don’t have the set schedule for the activities hosted for Chávez, who’s expected to arrive in the company of the CEO of
Venezuela’s State-owned petroleum group PDVSA, the director of the Petrocaribe oil deal, and Foreign Relations minister Nicolas Maduro.
