Santo Domingo.- The power company AES Andres, of the group AES Dominicana, won the “National Industry Prize for Environmental Management” and a special mention in the category “National Large Industry Prize for Quality” in Dominican Republic’s 12th annual Industrial Excellence Awards held Wednesday night.
“This is a recognition to all our people of the group AES Dominicana which is committed with adherence to the best practices, in the environment as well as with operational excellence in our policies and to the corporate philosophy based on our values and this fills us with deep pride,” said AES Dominican president Marco De Rosa.
He said he values the Prize for Excellence in Management since the National Industry has high standards of measure to award the companies. “I feel that this type of recognition serves to motivate the country’s entire industries to improve every day and to comply with the laws and regulations in effect, in the environmental aspect and in the management and quality processes as well.
AES Andres recently certified its Integrated Quality and Atmosphere Management System for Electricity Generation from Natural Gas, in compliance with norms ISO 9001:2008 and 14001:2004.
The AES Andres power plant supplies around 18% of all the energy routed through in National Interconnected Electric System (SENI), using natural gas, the most environment-friendly of all fossil fuels the country uses for energy.

Natural Gas is the fuel of the future. Power plants like this have lower capital costs, work more efficiently and emit less pollution than other fossil fuel power plants. This award is very well deserved!!

There is very little on the island that is environmentally friendly but the filth that is put over la Romana from the sugar factory when the owners are making super profits with high sugar prices is the worst .and even worse than the power plants near Zona Colonial

Which companies won this coveted prize in 2009, 2008? Which organization awards this honor? AES Andres is not as impressive as it appears. It happens to be, the big fish in a small pond (tiny by world standards). On another topic: Where are all the new CNG filling stations we have been expecting, that will be used by the new fleet of CNG powered vehicles? As everything else in the DR, just a lot of talk...blah, blah,...!!.

could this be an award used to stall in paying the bills owed, Mas Tarde
From: United States, Orange County, California
They won because they do not pollute and they do not pollute because the electrical plant is always off. That is why there is never electricity.

I'm confused. Where is the CNG coming from (I mean besides BP and Shell). Doesn't it have to be shipped in liquified form and isn't that super expensive (A/c floating cargo ships/tankers)?

Check out LNGpollutes.org. DR is also relying on the cost of CNG staying lower than regular liquid petroleum. I wouldn't bet on that.
