SANTO DOMINGO.- Construction of the Coral Highway advances progressively, which at a cost of 272 million dollars includes traffic exchanges along different points, an overpass at the actual road between La Romana and Higuey among them.
The first worksite is the La Romana Distributor under construction is for thru traffic to Higuey and exits to the Higuey-La Romana highway, and a second one in front of the La Romana Airport, for access to the La Romana-Higuey highway, and the coastal town Bayahibe.
Construction of three bridges also advances; one four lane, more than 300 meters long across the Chavon river, with two others at the Duey and Santa Clara rivers.
The Public Works Ministry said the ambitious project includes overpasses and distributors at busy intersections with the Coral, to expedite travel to the cities La Romana and Higuey, and the country’s major tourism region.
It added that the contractor also builds an overpass at the village Limón, to serve as the exit to the road to the coastal village Boca de Chavón.

Strangely ,,,no work has taken place for quite a few months ..so this press release is off the mark..and the information does not really tally up with what is happening . The by pass road of la Romana , where currently the Columbians drop their drugs is only in a very early stage. There is an interchange of roads , looks a little too grand and I am sure there will be many accidents is about half way between the outskirts of la Romana and the Airport ,,,then it looks as if a very high bridge will go over the deep gorge at Rio Chavon , followed by an exit ramp to Bayahibe and finally the road winds it´s way to Higuey , missing that city on the southern side .
As it is raining and cold here in Bayahibe , I will take the horse out tomorrow and ride some way to Higuey and report the progress.

272 million for an artists rendering and Leos night deposit box . This is as good as it gets people . 2 years from now you will still be replacing those bent rims and blown out tires after you've finally pulled it out of the mudd .

In other words, while the Guawas are still dodging the pot holes in Bavaro , Slick Willy will be driving his 2012 BEAMER on The Port Au Prince Autobahn ?

I would guess this project allows the most money to be stolen by our corrupt officials. Probably costs US $70M and the 200+ goes into various people's pockets. Why we wouldn't put every available peso of funds into getting reliable electricity should be the primary task at hand. It's easy to see stealing funds is the primary goal not making the country a better place for everyone.

Yes that is correct and he will be with the guy from BET and all the rest of the Big Dogs who will be coming for a piece of the action ...... altruistically of course

Don't worry.
The government is studying the electric supply problem.

I highly doubt this though . If my VERY reliable sources are as reliable as Im sure they are ,then Slick Willys wet dream of a Haitian magic kingdom has already dried up . Haiti is virtually hopeless and beyond repair which EXPLAINS why so many Haitians are opting to stay in thier own country rather than heading for the border and grabbing thier share of the Dominican dream that Leo is dangling over thier heads, right ?

hellborn..it is also to save lives..there are so many deaths on the road between San Pedro de Macoris and Punta Cana, that this double highway will be a life saver.
From: Dominican Republic
How many deaths can you document in the last 2 years Ric ? Are you referring to the stray roosters crossing the highway with the occasional goat ? At any rate, Im sure that saving lives is the objective of this current administration . I hope your one of the first to get a motoconcho ride down the enchanted yellow brick road to Bavaro that you will still be dreaming about 5 years from now.

more than 50 killed that I have read of , including two bus accidents with tourists, but i am sure that figure is only a small number of the actual facilities ,,just by reading the road statistics .
From: Dominican Republic
Yes , and we can believe everything we read coming out of the D.R presses ..( please document your sources) ..If your statistics are actually real , I dont think it would be an exaggaration to say that the borrachos behind the wheels of the buses are more to be blamed than the unfilled potholes.

I get it now......... start a highway project..... the funds $$$ go missing after a couple of months..... work stops on the project..... now your left with an almost perfectly finished "runway" in stead of bla bla highway.... TATATA..... you have a few miles of additional unprotected runways for future drug landings & take offs near the tourist resorts.... $$$$ in the bank!
