Constanza, Dominican Republic.- President Leonel Fernandez yesterday announced the immediate start of construction of the Constanza- Jarabacoa highway and instructed Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rúa to expedite the works so he can inaugurate it exactly one year from now, on June 29, 2011.

The chief executive, who made the announcement during the ribbon cutting of the highway to Constanza, built at a cost of 112 million dollars, arrived by helicopter in Bonao, from where he traveled until Constanza in the presidential motorcade to inspect the route.

Fernandez stressed the highway’s importance for Constanza’s development, affirming that the town depends on that road. “For Constanza this highway is equivalent to the Santo Domingo Metro. But it it’s only the forward edge, we must now build the second line, and that’s why I promise here that on June 29, 2011 I will return to inaugurate the Constanza-Jarabacoa highway.”

The road that links the country’s two most important mountain towns is currently 29 kilometers of rugged, rocky terrain, usable only by off road vehicles.

DarkManX,

I actually prefer my beer "vestido de novia" in a glass bottle, not in brown bags cause the bag will get stuck to the bottle...LoL. No thanx on the Colt45. I guess thats the beer of choice in Chi-town. I dont know why when ANHEUSER BUSCH produces a great variety of beers just a few hours south in St.Louis. Those disgusting Colt45 are gonna be the death of you Xwill...LoL. Stop being cheap and spend a few cents more for a good quality beer...JK

It seems strange to me to build more roads when most Dominicans have absolutely no idea how to drive ..it really is a case of pointing the car and playing dodgem cars and stopping when the car has no more fuel or breaks down through lack of maintenance.. Can you imagine the trucks and buses on these mountainous roads !!!!

No need to LINK Jarabacoa and Constanza although there is already a road that is sufficient.

US President Barack Obama has just appointed Dominican Ramona Emilia Romero as the General Counsel for the Department of Agriculture. Together with this latest nomination, President Obama has now appointed four Dominicans to government posts and one to a commission. In addition to the Ramona Romero, President Obama has also appointed Tom Perez (Asst. Attorney General), Jim Esquea (Asst. Secretary for Dept. of Health & Human Services), Julissa Reynoso (Deputy Asst. Secretary of State), and Cid Wilson (National Museum of the American Latino Commission).

The link between Jarabacoa and Constanza is an essential artery. It is the only passable access to Constanza when the road from Duarte is closed.

Improving the road from Constanza to San Jose de Ocoa would be the next capital transportation project for the area. It would serve as a transportation link to the the country's southwest region allowing users to bypass the long via Santo Domingo route.

Escott, you are absolutely correct that there is no urgent need for a major road between jarabacoa and constanza. but, prez and his boys want one, just like they want a lot of metros. so, the country will get one, whether they need it of not. and a lot of shiny new jeepetas. hey, it is the third world. what do you want? intelligent behavior?

urgent need is spending some money on education, so that grown men and women do not believe that the earth is flat. get it, blutarsky? i know that in your right wing way of seeing things, there is no need to educate the peasants, since what they do not know does not hurt them. better to have them poor and broke, so that your rich friends can offer them 200pesos per day to break their asses in the midday sun. in your shallow little mind, any attempt to elevate the conditions of the poor is left wing bull. well, we are just different, that is all. i just refuse to accept the belief that God died and left the world for people like you in his will.

Education of Peasants
The process of cleansing the children of conservative parents of bourgeois falsehoods, and conditioning them for the life in a progressive society, through instilling the correct ideas of multiculturalism, moral relativity, collectivism, and sacrifice for The Greater Good™. No anarchic free market of schools should be permissible. All schools must be within the nationwide government system, manned with Party soldiers teaching the same controlled message to ensure a majority mandate for a continuation of orthodoxy. Children must be encouraged to report the misdeeds of one another to authorities and to denounce their parents as well as those teachers who stray away from pre-approved textbooks. Lowering educational standards is advisable for the rabble as well as the elite at this phase; a weakened America filled with morons will offer us an emptiness to be filled by ourselves.
