SANTO DOMINGO. - The Transport Reform Office (OPRET) today Monday opened the inscription prior to choosing the company which will build the tracks of the Santo Domingo Metro’s second line.

The OPRET said the bidding seeks tender offers from companies and partnerships with experience in the construction and installation of equipment and materials for the Second Line’s facilities.

The sections to be supplied are the first stage from the Luperón avenue to the Francisco del Rosario Sanchez bridge (La 17), and Luperón -avenue to the subdivision Los Alcarrizos, in the second phase.

The sheet with the tender conditions may be obtained in the OPRET, located on Maximo Gomez avenue next to the bridge to Villa Mella.

Answers to questions and explanations of the terms of reference will be provided from Wednesday July 28 until August 27 and the bidding will be held using two sealed envelopes no later than Monday, September 13, in the OPRET.

It is a strange article as there has been much work done already along Kennedy and past Maximo Gomez so I am not sure what this is all about ..but the important section is past the bridge under the road to mega centro and all the way along Vincent de Paul ..thus connecting much of Santo Domingo Este ..like wise at the other end it is important to bring in the barrios past Luperon around Carrefour and to los Alcarrizos ..until the line is all the length in the metro area , I think people will use public taxis for the short trips

I thought this was already well under way (no pun intended).

All of the major construction contracts were "given" without tenders. This apparently is for the actual tracks only.

ateo ..the route between luperon and el puente is probably just over half the proposed final route in the city and I guess the actual tunneling is about a third to a half finished judging by the construction detours ,,I have no idea about the progress of the lines, the stations or safety features ..but it really is past the bridge at one end and past Luperon at the other that will bring in the most passengers ..

I think DR should focus and put more effort into paving the roads. Most people already have cars or pasolas, I doubt they want to ditch out cash to leave their car or motorcycle at home in order to get on the train that may possibly give them a longer commute. The train is great for connecting cities and allowing people without automobiles to travel, but there are many, many roads that are still made of dirt or gravel. If they have millions to spend in order to construct a 2ND TRAIN LINE, then they should seriously consider where their priorities are. Paving roads would be a much better idea since they already have a train that is working just fine. They shouldn't start a new project if they haven't finished an old one.

DR is beautiful, paving roads would allow people to travel it a little more without needing a jeepeta to go everywhere.
