Santo Domingo.- Dominican Federation of Companies (Copardom) president Marisol Vicens warned Wednesday that Government’s planned fuel price “indexation” will jeopardize productive sectors and jobs nationwide. “When gasoline prices increase, when diesel prices increase, it affects transport and all sectors and we know that it’s obviously going to severely affect jobs.”

She criticized that fuel prices haven’t been indexed in the last three years, when it should’ve been done every three months, so its effect is gradual. “We understand that there’s been an incompliance of the Law with a political purpose and that’s the situation we have as a consequence.”

Vicens said the population cannot continue bearing the burden with measures such as those when there’s no Government austerity plan. “What we want is that this country doesn’t continue carrying the authorities’ broken dishes and the fiscal disorder, we feel that there has to be a responsible handling of spending here.”

Interviewed on Color Vision Channel 9, the business leader noted that when fuel prices rise so does the cost for each Dominican family and especially for the small retailers.

DR government officials never do things with detail study, such as detail planning, budgetary planning, feasible study, consequence study.....etc.

They are such ignorant people and yet they want to pretend they are so knowledgeable in everything...just take a look of their educational background (sorry, I am not prejudice, but let's find out)

THINK-These people thrive on caos and disorganization. If planning and feasibiliites studies were done and operations were maintained in an orderly manner, you will easily and quickly catch the crook and eliminate corruption. However, the fact of the matter DR authorities have no interest to get things done in a well organized manner. They don't care any way, shape or form if government operations are carried out in an orderly fashion. It will be counter productive to their ulterior motives.

guillermone ,,,with the exception of your last sentance I agree entirely ,,,proper and disciplined planning ,organisation and administration is not the Dominican way ..it seems alien to them I see it in small things like an organisation of a golf event or organisation of street closures during a street event or even in repairs in houses .. I do not know what it is but I now just accept it .
I know of no other country that changes petrol prices based on some index, I assume an inflation index,,,it is totally ludicrous as the rises themselves cause further inflation ,All prices of fuel normally rise and fall according to the price of crude oil , but sometimes a government will change its flat rate or percentage rate on fuel as an election gimmick ..but never an index

Most of the comments here confuse me for this reason:

1. - Everybody here always complains about the DR government NOT following the laws.

2. - Now here we have a case where the law IS being followed by the DR government and people are complaining about the law being followed.

You guys have to decide which way you want the government to go because I don't see the problem with what the government is doing here.

Pick a side which are :

1. follow the laws in place
2. Don't follow the laws

You just can't have it both ways.

notice the lady said that the indexation should have been gradual, but was neglected for political reasons. translated into english, that means the runup to the elections. as i have said a million times, the politicians are good at electioneering, but have no clue about governance. and, Ricardolito, in this dear land, the term FEASIBILITY STUDY is a non starter

BELLY ..I doubt if anyone has much of an idea what the government wants to do as it has not been properly explained ,,in fact today in DR1 it is reported that the indexation of fuel will be made and the ITBIS will be removed , as well as luxury taxes ,
If that is true it means that the tax burden simply changes to different people and businesses ..but there has been no decent information on the package anywhere ,,just the emphasis on the one issue ,,the indexation of fuel .
I suppose if ITBIS was raised by 1 or 2 % it may bring in the same result as the indexation of fuel
