Santo Domingo.- The agenda for the meeting of the Haiti - Dominican Republic Mixed Bilateral Commission, to be officially reactivated Saturday morning in Wanament (Haiti northeast), has already been drafted.
Migratory affairs, security, trade, investment, the environment, agriculture, tourism, and the aid to Haiti after the catastrophe in January form part of the chronogram the Dominican Government officials have prepared to address with their Haitian pars, in the gathering headed by presidents Leonel Fernandez and René Préval.
Foreign Relations minister Carlos Morales said the country is ready to begin the Commission’s work and stressed its importance. "We already have an agenda, a chronogram which will be submitted on Saturday for the sub-commissions, we’re going to start something which Dominican Republic has waited fervently for and with a great desire to solve and to thrust it forward.”
He said all the government officials related to the topics to be discussed will accompany Fernandez to Haiti. “The idea is to give it an institutional follow up, and that’s the reason we have been ready since 2009."

14. Build the dam Wall and put South Florida Alligators in the river.
From: United States, Naples, Florida
Yes, Pepe32 is right! Haiti's constitution should name the island "Santo Domingo", honoring all treaties with DR. DR should name the country Quisqueya to avoid alibis of monopolizing the name of the island. Haiti for Haitians and Quisqueya for Quisqueyans in the Island of Santo Domingo. Duarte gave Quisqueya its name and no one else has more authority than him to do it.
The denomination of the State (republic) is Dominican Republic in the Island of Santo Domingo and not as Haitian Republic in the Island of Haiti. That was the Trinitarian Oath.

@ Elprofe look at you. demanding to build a wall and have alligators thrown in the massacre river? you're brainless. anyone who does nothing but preaches hate is a nobody. you probably don't even have a 3rd grade education. whenever Preval and Fernandez meets, the only thing that comes to your mind is UNIFICATION. Yeah right! The haitian population outnumbers you. One third of the Dominican population are either Haitian or Haitian descent. I know Haiti don't have an army but don't let that fool you. you have an army but lots of high ranking officers are from haiti. you want to act white but you have a black president in Fernandez. smh! GET A LIFE LOOSER
From: Haiti
You want to ban blacks from entering your night clubs but 80% of your population are mulatoes or black skins. Even fernandez great grandparents are from Haiti. Why do you guys think he likes Haiti so much? He is just like Fransisco Gomez, who was haitian, won an election and nearly became president in several years ago. WE ARE THE ONES WHO REALLY OWNS THE ISLAND

Pepe32,
Good points. Your suggestions carry a constructive basis for resolution of some of the most vexing issues facing the two nations. Hopefully, they will be negotiated and put into practice soon. Dessaline1804, you make some valid points, perhaps "1/3 of the Dominican population is of Haitian descent," but you fail to realize that even if such a population exist in DR, Dominicans in general do not want to be subsumed within a Greater Haiti. Haitians appear to have no problem with converting the entire island into Greater Haiti, but that's not the issue; the Eastern 2/3 side is a separate entity and does not want nor desire to be an integrated part of the Western side. What you wish for will only bring about a massive violent spree that will leave both sides wounded and disillusioned, while eliminating international support for improving the lives of the many millions of poor people that reside on each side of the island, especially in Haiti. Think!

I agree with should name dominican republic "Quisqueya " because every country is a republic but they have their own name. The country of Quisqueya located in the carribean sea. Waooo this sound just perfect, nice. I like the Idea. maybe like that all dominican should stop calling it santo domingo. Exam: pa donde tu ba? Pa santo domingo, but really they are going to, La Vegas, moca, puerto plata, santiago etc.

CONSTITUTION;
why do you care what Haitians call the island.....and why should Haitians care what dominicans call the island.
They are two separates states...and each can choose to name the island whatever it wants.
Some haitians are starting to use the term "part-island" of haiti
Dominicans can call it "part-island" of Santo Domingo
or simply use the terms Haiti and Dominican republic.

Believe it or not! i have no personal beef with Dominicans. But my biggest problems are the way some people trash haitians on their site. So what if Fernandez is trying to help us. God help him. maybe he knows his history. without haiti, there would not be a DR. maybe just like Puerto Rico is to the U.S. A TERRITORY

And we, DR or Quisqueyanos or whatever other republican name, would be far happier and prosperous, too. The fatal French Enterprise created this historical disaster. Let's hope it does not consume the entire island. And that the dismal failure of governance in Haiti can be reversed and a better Haiti reconstituted.

its two separate states, two separate cultures , two separate believe system, two separate countries, and since one country is in near collapse and the flow of imigration of citizens of that countrie.want to illegally migrate to the dominican republic theres need to be separate walls builded

I just had to get this out my chest. Im sick and tired of these people, they wanna take the speck out the neighbor's eye, but don't see the plank in their own eye.

To ElFacto: I'm not like you. Mindless people rely on profanity. there are people that regretted when President Boyer invaded the Spanish side in 1822 he shoul've kill everyone there in order for us to keep the whole island to ourselves. You never fought for independance. we gave it to you.We had no use for Santo Domingo. I wish you were in front of me to call me a monk so I could whip your punk ass. WANNA BE SPANIARD.

yo elfactor, and my people if you guy wanna to start a better tomorow just stop the verbal war it ain't gonna take us no where we are both a poor nation but Dominican are way better than us, all i can say is too look forward to the success, it don't matter who fought for idependence we all got it, now it's a new era let's forget the past and let's move forward we all know the truth, the history, while the two nations are fighting verbally, the governments are looking for relationship, it'd be the same thing if Haiti was better than DR, it'd alwaays have that imigration impact, unfortunately Haiti is not, so let the truth speak itself let change the ISLAND, we are came from the same history, hate is hell, let's build a new relation, as haitian my girlfriend is dominican we go to the same school so we do we got to hate noone has to apologize, the french guy ( BOYER) did you wrong not the haitians because he still had the french ambition to conquer the ISLAND.

A unification of the island by Dominicans will never happen. Haitians would never accept it. There are lots of reasons why. Haitians occupied and rule Them 22 years. I know some Dominicans hate to hear that but it happened. they teach every kids in haiti not to let Dominicans feel like they're better than us because they're not. from 1822-1844, anyone born in the island were HAITIANS. And they still won't accept their haitian herritage. They call themselves "Tainos". YEAH RIGHTT...

@ zoe Pee. I never said they preached hate in school but they taught us about the occupation. Believe me bro, I also have a few Dominican friends and they always talk about the occupation years. That's the main reason why some of them can't stand u.s. Every nation have their good people and assholes. Look I was in haiti on Jan 12th. Stayed there until may. Dominicans were all over from day one helping victims. I will always respect that. But it's the facts. lots of them hate us because of the 22 years of occupation.
