Santo Domingo.- A Brazilian expert in solid waste urged the Dominican Government to take advantage of biogas as alternative energy and start easing the electricity crisis that in his view has roiled the Dominican population in the last few years.
La Jun Corporation operations manager Max Da Silva, who handles the landfill at Duquesa, affirmed that the garbage dump currently produces more than 1,000 cubic meters of biogas, and once the first stage concludes, the figure could jump considerably.
“Our expectations are that when the project is totality certified we may be generating between one and two megawatts of electricity, but could reach at least 10 in the future because Duquesa has the conditions and we as a project are in the capacity to continue reaching all ours goals,” Da Silva said.

"There's trash in the government" pueblo tells LF.
That would be a more accurate headline.

One mans garbage is another mans treasure.
If this Brazilian expert has urged the DR gov't to take advantage of garbage, then my question begs, will the government listen?

Well, the RD gov has not listen so far.... This opportunity is not new news. Go back and read my posts from 2007, '08 etc.
Just look at all the trash piles on the streets (Santiago, La Capital). The land dumps create a bio fuel by-product. Secondarily, the trash can be recycle before put into a landfill whereas some can be comingled in to burn in traditonal coal fired plants to produce cheaper electric power.
Like in Brazil, sugar cane can yield 5x times more biofuel than US Corn. The huge shipment of "supposedly" tainted US corn ... could have been used to produce cheaper bio fuel to run new energy efficient state run bus system. I prefer a national rail system driven by a cheap electric from a nuclear plant or use the above biofuels or bio-diesel to run gas-fired electric generation plants.
keep the trash off the streets and less in land fills. The DR should be follow the Brazilian model for energy diversity and also explore offshore for natural gas & oil.

you can never see, juanb, that just recently, .the population overwhelmingly voted for the government and that people like you can not accept the vote of el pueblo , You can continue to make all the snide remarks or all the spiteful remarks, full of bile, but the simple fact is that the governments, both nationally and locally, have all been democratically elected .
So give yourself a good break and accept how the people have voted ,,,or come up with some good positive suggestions .

When will these twits wake up and realize that the People have rejected all of these forms of power generation through the free market.
Does the DR have enough money to pay for this crap?

The moment somebody starts a bio-gas plant, one thousand will follow.
It's the typical "copiaditis", endemic in the DR.

I guess I have bitten the hook. After many months of following the bashing on a daily basis of the Dominican Republic my only conclusion their are many people with out lives.Yes there serious problems here and else where in the world for that matter.I have lived in the DR for 20 years, own and run a succesful business... With the help of my 100% Dominican staff , they make a honest wage and are treated with respect.things will never change unless everyone does their part. You only get what you give!
