SANTO DOMINGO.- President Leonel Fernandez submitted to the Senate, two amendments to the construction and financing contracts of the Coral Highway, which raises the cost of the work from US$272.3 million to US$360.7 million.

One amendment increases the projected construction time from 24 to 32 months and the other was included to extend the payment mode and adapt it to the financial market’s reality, since the international situation has hindered the Dominican Government’s access to the capitals market at favorable rates.

The work on the four lane highway would be carried out in a single phase and includes the construction of the span La Romana-Punta Cana, starting at the La Roman Bypass to the rotunda at the Punta Cana International Airport, and features toll plazas, overpasses, bridges and other structures.

Pathologically transparent corrupt morons.

This is inline with "New deputy: It’s time to confront "ruthless" journalists".

Does this point out how blatantly stupid this person is? This is endemic in the DR, no one has the brains or moral fiber to do the correct thing.

Failed state of losers.

In my time here I have yet to see much ever get finished, and the little that has been completed is done in patchwork fashion.

So....a 35% increase in budget? How can this be??? I thought the plan was all in place...the crack engineers and beancounters on the ball.
Extend the timeline? Any reason given ????

This is going to end up like the tourist boulavard here in Punta Cana. A bunch of brainfarts driving $100,000 SUVs throwing empties out the window.

Lets see what 88 million will buy.

880 full dressed Toyota Land Cruisers.

If we see an increase in luxury car sales...we know where the money went!

What this really means is that our lenders are starting to smell smoke and are reluctant to lend us more. That is why our financial team is now in Washington begging the IMF for more money. When they were here they found too many abnormalities, and did not approve new loans.

Lee-FLEA at work.....this is crazy.......THE ESTIMATOR MUST GET FIRED.........and Lee-FLEA should stop hirring his buddies.......They lowball all BIDs, they get the job, then break ground, then 1/4 of the way into construction........Ooops " We(Leo and Friends) underestimated the project....being that the government is already commited and the work is already started, construction can't be put to the side.. So...Lee-FLEA does what he do best and that is BORROW BORROW BORROW..How convinient!! No one(Gov. Officials) says anything, witch makes me think everyone is in on it.......Leonel and friends should be charge with TREASON, for the betrayal of the Dominican Rep. and then Impeached for UNLAWFULL ACTIVITIES against the Dominican Rep. and after stripping them of everything convict them as TRAITORS , for FAILING to act in the best interest of the Dominican Rep.....Enough is Enough already!!!!

YES!! Verry much needed, but to underestimated on every major project and no one gets canned is ridiculous.........lets get rid of this team already!!!! As a matter of fact, this money should not even be approved. The contractor should EAT THE COST if he wants to work in the Dominican Rep. again or put him in jail, an example should be made out of this company. On principal only.

Should have built a light railway instead. Far less polluting plus you can enjoy a meal on the train!
Costa del Sol has nice railways.
Less accidents too and freight can travel at night.
