Santo Domingo. – State-owned Power Companies (CDEEE) CEO Celso Marranzini met Friday with the heads of a group of organizations who proposed a social pact to spur the electrical sector’s sustainable development.
The official listened to the proposal by the representatives of the Alternative Social Forum, Citizen Forum, Center Juan Montalvo, Center Juan XXIII, Alternative City, the Herrera and Santo Domingo Province Industries Association, the Industries Federation and of the Consumer Rights Foundation.
They said the pact must be based on a strategy of consensus of the different positions of the political parties, business groups, unions, civil society organizations, the Electricity Superintendence and the National Energy Commission, and the sector’s companies.
They said they seek a social pact “that anticipates action for the short, medium and long term to obtain the changes that guarantee that the sector is an effective element for the nation’s sustainable development.”
The representative said they are willing to accompany the CDEEE Administration -coordinator of the electrical sector- in its effort to harmonize interests, educate and raise awareness in the population on its duties and rights regarding the service electricity. “We must all be parts of one same illusion: to change this situation of the electrical sector.”
Marranzini agreed to participate in a follow up mechanism jointly with civil society organizations, to analyze the proposals for the pact based on the view that to solve the electrical crisis requires the effort of all Dominicans.

A social pact?
What is next?
A group hug to generate electricity?
Thats what has been happening anyway.
Everybody talks, but nobody really does anything.
