Yhe crude site at Maleno, Azua.
Santo Domingo.- Mining Agency director Octavio Lopez today announced the finding of a new petroleum emanation in the country’s East region, which studies by laboratories in England say it’s of better quality than a similar deposit in Azua (south).
The spring of crude oil in a community near Higüey, Altagracia province, was verified by Mining officials who went to the site discovered by farmers, and warned of strong smells and oil stains. He said technicians analyzed the crude and took samples to determine its characteristics.
In Thursday morning press conference, Lopez said the samples were sent to the labs of GHgeochemical Services, LTD, in Babington, England and the results confirmed that it’s “natural petroleum, not a refined of synthetic petroleum produced in a refinery, very different from the one from Azua.”
The official added that the oil is high quality and low sulfide, and confirms the existence of at least two active Oil Systems on Hispaniola island, “in two geographically separate geologic lands, one to the Southwest and the other to the East.”

Don't be typical Dominicans. The score is 6-0 but it is only the first inning. There is a long way to go before this yields anything, and certainly if there is any goverment capable of screwing this up, it is ours.

Agreed AC. Need to establish the dimensions of the find before any reasonable assumptions can be made. Would be a tremendous advance for DR IF the find establishes a giant or massive reservoir; I hope it does.

Land prices just went up in Altagracia province. Expect the now overwhelmed Tribunal de Tierras to be besieged with mutilple claims for ownership of lands around or near the site. As it is now in the DR there is more land in titles than there is land, 72,000 square kilometers in titles, 48,000 square kilometers in territory. Go Figure !

I don't know how many people remembers this, but it's not the first time the gov't looks for petro in DR land. and I know that at some point there were talks that they had found some, but that it wasn't enough to make an investment. I don't know if technology can play a trick now a days, but I know it's not the first time.

Oil comes from fossils (dead animals) any and every country must have had life millions of years ago, including DR, so therefore it's stupid to think that we don't have oil, we just need to get off our lazy butts and start digging!
