Santo Domingo.- Business leaders and representatives the Duarte, Juan Sanchez Ramirez and Hermanas Mirabal provinces on Wednesday asked president Leonel Fernandez to personally assume the start of construction of the northeast multiple aerodrome, and thus keep his promise to build the air terminal.
The spokespersons Héctor Rizek, Abraham Abukarma, Rubén Madera, Isidro Pichardo, Juan González, Fátima Ureña and Rafael Fernandez called the delay to materialize Decree 639-08 unjustifiable, for which they ask the President to issue the urgent instructions for the work to proceed.
They said the delay is unexplained because Fernandez has already issued its decree to prepare the work and that the studies required by the Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) and other agencies, determined that the land chosen and expropriated for his construction is adequate.
They added that the IDAC, the Airports Department, the Public Works. Environment and Agriculture ministries, the international agency OACI, Meteorology and other agencies have approved the aerodrome’s construction.

The north east is perfect for a DRUG trafficking airstrip. It's a thriving industry so why not provide a distribution outlet too, which means more money laundering, and an increase of invisible tourist...

They do not need anymore airports. They can fix all of the roads instead and use Santiago, Puerto Plata, and Samana to serve the north east.... This is an island not North America!

xman there is no where in North America where they have so many international airports as close together as the DR nowhere

Dominicans have the idea that more is better. so, one guy builds a rancho tipico, and, next week, another guy builds one, right next door. for proof of that assertion, visit montellano. then, a guy opens a banca, and, within a month, sixteen more spring up, within walking distance. there is a car wash on every other corner...little wonder there is a push on for an airport at every traffic intersection.

El Cibao airport is modern enough to serve more traffic... Fix the pot holes first, I am tired of having to buy new tires all the time

Samana Airport which is actually in Nagua is a failure. Samana is a failure due to the amount of rain it gets. Tourists don't want to go there. AA canceled the only schhedualed flught there yet these BoZoS want to put more money into it. Don't get it. These people spend money they don't have like they drive.

The 4 main airports in DR can handle the traffic... DR does not need 10... All of the main tourist spots have airports near by. What are you talking about?

if the people in DR ever decide do leave the yolas behind and take to the air they can use all these airports. El Catey airport is way under used unfortunately it opened right at the time that jet fuel prices soared.

No more airports. Use the money to build schools, fix the pot holes or invest in agricultural exports-provide better transport, training and R&D to promote exports.

Where is this airport been built - the next closest airport must be only a few km's away. Still once they have built it they will then need a high speed train network to link them all up.
Any news on the Santiago-Santo Domingo line?
