Santo Domingo.- The Customs Agency (DGA) on Tuesday called the Green Customs initiative a regional landmark and unprecedented timely action, which implements stricter coordination between official entities and improves the ability to detect and halt illegal trade with the so called “sensitive products.”

It said Green Customs is an initiative for the country to abide by its obligations within the multilateral agreements and guarantees the protection of the environment and the population’s health.

The DGA affirms that the interagency agreement, between the Environment, Public Health and Agriculture ministries, Customs, and Navy, assumes a series of challenges and commitments, which stress the effective involvement of the Dominican Customs with the environmental issues; training of personnel to identify illicit and dangerous substances.

It adds that the agreement will lead to “the effective interaction with those government agencies, to handle prohibited substances appropriately.”

What may these sensitive "GREEN" products be? Could it be agricultural products that have been banned for export due to CAFTA.
