Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s State-owned Power Companies (CDEEE) today announced the start of the process of a call for tenders, to expand the national grid’s capacity by 1,000 megawatts, and a possible further increase as high as 1,500 MW, at a cost of US$3.0 billion.
Utility CEO Celso Marranzini said the call for tenders aims to attract local and foreign investment to build new coal fired or natural gas plants, with units of up to 260 MW each.
He said the tender offers will be selected in two phases, one of planning, starting February 24, and the second to prepare and select the offers, which would conclude in July.
In another topic, Marranzini affirmed that there will be an increase in the electricity supply for Christmas and New Year.

Stupid - just promote energy saving devices.
DR has already too much energy for its needs in most areas.
An attack on consumption is needed.

Who would be stupid enough to become CDEEEEEEEEE's supplier given its credit history and current debt??

We always look to save energy which is why when there is power during the night we sleep with all the lights off, no television, fans etc. working. This morning at 8am the power goes off so we continue to save energy as nothing is able to work without electricity. It's now 3pm and still no electric so we are still saving energy. Now tell me there is too much energy for the needs of the people in the DR!!

Now this is a step in the right direction. 1000 MW! possibly 1, 500 MW
The future expansion of the economy requires strong energy investments.

How about collecting all the money that is not being paid by the electricity thieves?
Use that money to fund this expansion.
Celso is doing a terrific job in most areas but his hands are tied when it comes to all the deadbeats stealing their power. Excuse me, OUR POWER.

Apropos this DT story:
The Association of Industries of Herrera and the Province of Santo Domingo (AEIH) is calling for an end to the "era of diagnostics" saying the same conclusions are always reached about the productive sectors, as reported in acento.com.do. The AEIH, now under Wadi Cano Acra, says the times call for a new era based on political will to apply the laws, the rules of the game and the regulations that guarantee the continuity of public policies.
He said that the decline of industry in terms of its contribution to the GDP, in percentage of bank loans and decreasing confidence, is the result of atrophied government policies. "We promoted the reform of the electricity sector, but this was castrated; the Law of Innovation and Industrial Competitiveness," a valuable instrument was frustrated; while the block of laws on transparency in government accountability is barely applied," he complained.

No Surprise here:
The Dominican Alliance Against Corruption (Adocco) is claiming that the 26 loans approved for use by the government this year and the local and foreign sovereign funds, for more than RD$125 billion to be used in the metro, dams and roadworks as well as to compensate for fiscal deficits are rife with corruption, as reported in Hoy. The organization says that the public works these funds are being used for are overvalued and the contractors were chosen in violation of Law 340-06 on Government Procurement that obliges tenders. Several of the financing contracts have been signed with country export agencies. He was especially critical of the EUR415 million funding for the second line of the metro contracted to Alstom Transporte S.A.
Adocco spokesman Julio Cesar Tiburcio accused Congress of abandoning its responsibilities and facilitating these loans, including one for US$230 million granted by the French Development Agency (AFD) for the metro.

If it is $3.0 billion USD for 1500 MWs of new installed capacity without anything else, someone is getting taken to the cleaners ! With that much money the DR should be able to add a totally new national grid to the contract on top of 1500 Megs.....btw Celso, 260 MW plants are too small for coal fired plants, but you already know that !! Money talks and someone has a few small plants they are willing to sell the DR for a sweet deal.... Todo es posible en el pais de las maravillas !
Feliz Navidad to all.

Lie-onel Fernandez and the PLD megaphones think we are stupid children.
On the eve of the election year they are holding full court press every day with fabulous announcements of projects, public tenders and transparency that will never happen!
Well if they judge the electorate by the way some of the posters on DT eat up their excrement they would get the impression the DR populace are ignorant children.

It appears that Lie-onel and Celso have a SHORT CIRCUIT in their national development plan and Dominican small businessmen are BLOWING A FUSE!
National small businesses are not seeing the benefits of the Neo-liberal policies of Lie-onel and Atabey:
"The Government does not give participation to local suppliers in Meg works"
"SANTO DOMINGO (r. Dominicana).-the Association for suppliers of electrical materials (ASUME) complained that the Government does not take into account local companies on large projects that develop hydroelectric dams, electrical works and the Santo Domingo Metro."
Now it wasn't me that brought up the Dam METRO this time OK!
I love it , and the guys name is Leonel!

As long as the PRD moochers and other Socialist/Fascists had to identify themselves as well. That way a good 95% of the population will be covered
