Santo Domingo.- The Public Works Ministry, in coordination with the Corridor Duarte Consortium will provisional open the nearly finished tunnel that links Ortega & Gasset avenue and the Santo Domingo State University (UASD), to test its lights control and other systems.

In a statement, Public Works said the tunnel will be open to traffic from 9am to 1pm Friday and Saturday, and form 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, to test its smoke detection, video cameras, warning panels, ventilation, smog and other systems.

Pedestrian overpass

In the intersection of 27 de Febrero close to Defillo St. meanwhile, a pedestrian overspass is also nearly finished, and according to a foreman who asked that his name not be used, will be open from late jamuary to early February. I other News on the state of roads and public projects:

File this under the "BUS is Going in Reverse"

"The road works are in between total deterioration and mega projects”

"In the Dominican Republic there is NO policy of road maintenance. Small and modest investments, as necessary to ensure the social utility and durability of public works, do not fit into the scheme of the current Government, definitively supporter of Pharaonic projects with large budgets.

We know that small works do not represent an attractive slice for the bottomless barrel of corruption but some things should do well, even if only to save face."

Anybody seen $40, 000,000 million dollars?

“By the way, on March 25,l 2010 in full electoral campaign, the Minister of public works, Victor Diaz Rúa, announced in Puerto Plata and the Government had delivered 40 million dollars to the Colombian firm DOVICON to start the construction of the highway Navarrete Puerto Plata. See publication date (Minister of public works Announces start of works in Puerto Plata: http://hotelesenhoteles.com/?p=7811)

We have no knowledge how those funds were used or the destination of those resources since that the work is completely paralyzed.”
