Cartagena, Colombia.– Metropolitan Bus Service Office (OMSA) director Ignacio Ditrén announced the government is planning to acquire Transmilenio buses as part of its efforts to modernize the transport service in the country.
According to local newspaper Listin, Ditren said that President Leonel Fernandez signed an agreement in Cartagena for the Dominican Republic to provide advice to Colombia in the construction of a subway, and that nation would advise the country on the use of buses as a mass transport system.
"The State would not buy buses. We are proposing that the entrepreneurs buy them and we would rent their service and pay them for every transported passenger," he added.

Based on what we did to the costly Mercedes-Benz buses that we bought, in terms of maintenance, I can't wait to see what any new bus looks like in 2 years.
From: Dominican Republic, vieja Santo Domingo
Yes we urgently need these buses in Santo Domingo and the capital so as to eliminate the dreadful taxis publicos ,,In the capital there are only two limited routes and there is a need for more transport from Bani and san cristobel to the capital and between the two major cities .
If i recall correctly the last major purchase of buses resulted in a total scandel where some buses were illegally sold and those imprisoned were given a pardon some years on by Leonel ...not one of his best acts..,,it resulted in everyone on the pardon recommendations board resigning in protest .
Anyway ,,,two big and growing cities need good bus services

The fault of the government plan is the fault of the government to make complete and timely payments for any service or commodity. I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger I can have today. ,,,and Tuesday never arrives. No entrepreneur in his right mind would enter such a transport deal.
There are not enough fingers and toes within the total population to count the number of times the government has stiffed a supplier.

Walter Polo ,,yes it will be an interesting confrontation ,,,the probem with the bus systems in the capital , Santiago and in la Romana and probably in other major cities that we do not have proper bus terminals ,,there should be at least 3 very large covered parks in the capital where you can arrive or depart in somme comfort ..the situation around Ave Duarte and 27 febrero at present is crazy with buses going to various destinations from impossible to find locations

"and that nation would advise the country on the use of buses as a mass transport system."
This is an obvious admission by the “genius” Lie-onel Fernandez that there was and is a quicker and more cost effective way to alleviate the congestion other than his magic Choo Choo Train that the public refuses to use.
The reelection inspired improvised METRO project is a Faro a Colon on wheels!
Imagine the commision that Lie-onel and his mafia will get as a going away present before August 16, 2012, for proposing this scheme!

The cloud cover is extraordinary:
This is also another non-planned knee jerk reaction proposal, part of the political media hype to try to bring up the PLD’s dismal approval ratings.
Now here is real serious priority with potential immediate health consequences that is being ignored:
Environmental pollution in National district
The exclusive Naco area, on its way to becoming another Guachupita
Why does Mr. Contreras says this? Because 73% of the population of Santo Domingo does not have a sanitary sewer system, and the sewage waste goes into “septic tanks” that compete with the groundwater sources, Inapa pipes and cisterns.
" If the sewer problem in Naco, is not re-engineering or renewed, in 15 or 20 years will be just as Guachupita, a pure sewer"

With much regret I will find myself voting for Hippo. Not that I don't have a memory which I do have but because of the choice given me. Josean's choice isn't on the ballot and stands a snails chance of winning the Daytona 500 so given my choices I will vote for what has become the less of two evils.
Hippo has my vote now which I am VERY sorry to say!

Escott,
I respect your view as I think you find yourself in the same situation I was in 2008 when I supported Miguel Vargas as an “anybody but Lie-onel choice.”
To be perfectly honest with you I met Dr. Moreno several years ago after having met his wife, Aura Celeste Fernandez Rodríguez de Moreno the year before when she was still a Judge JCE. On the occasion I met him I had the privilege of driving the two of them to their hotel and had the opportunity to discuss many issues with him and her at length. For what it’s worth in my honest and humble opinion they are both the REAL DEAL. Their depth of knowledge on law, economics, history, government, national and international affairs are very impressive and inspiring. They are at the same time humble and carrying people equal at ease with a sophisticated audience as with a peasant like me.
Honestly, I was hooked on them from the very first moment I met her and then Dr. Moreno.
