Will the prices soar?
Zoom Picture

Santo Domingo.- The Airlines Association (ALA) on Friday stated it’s concern with the rise in the price of jet fuel (avtur) and noted that its cost in Dominican Republic is the most expensive in the Caribbean region.

It cautions that if that price remains at its current level or increases, it will have a negative impact on the civil aviation and tourism sectors.

In that regard, the ALA said it agrees with the concern voiced by the Tourism Ministry and the country’s hoteliers and tourism business leaders grouped in ASONAHORES, on the high price of aircraft fuel.

The statement emailed by AILA contradicts Industry and Commerce ministry Ramon Fadul’s assertion that the high price won’t affect the local travel industry, because in his view the jet planes don’t fill up in the country’s airports.

My ticket prices have doubled in the past year coming through Miami or Atlanta to POP. Was around 4 to $600.00 US. Now I pay over $1000.00 and usually cannot return to my destination in a single day. I have a place near Columbus, OH.

Airlines will have to start using efficient equipment such as A380 - also more charters running at 95% load factor.

If the plane loads up enough to make a round trip that really breaks down as airfreighting in their own fuel. It is hoped by anyone in the transportation business. Passenger or freight - vessel or airline - that fuel at destination will be reasonalbly priced so that the maximum amount of cargo can be hauled and refueling costs are more or less world scale. Here in the D.R. fuel for vessels pay pump price plus and additional 5% to the port authority. Does someone in the business know if same for airlines? The high taxes of fuels should be enough to pay for good roads but we are all aware that is not the case. The add on also does not fully pay for the petroleum as Chavez has a sweet deal Caribbean area consumers to assist them and presumably they will be so gratified that they will not allow foreign power to launch attacks on him/Venz. from their respective countries.
