SANTO DOMINGO. - Santo Domingo’s Naval Shipyard are already operating at a cost of more than 100 million pesos and built on what were the Felix Benítez facilities, on the Ozama river’s eastern banks.

The investment in the project has led to create an important industry and services area, which repairs and builds boats for the Navy and the international market, and provides maintenance for the ships that arrive at Sans Souci port.

Prior to the start of operations the company extensively dredged and cleaned up the Ozama river and adjacent communities.

The project surged from a strategic alliance with the Las Calderas Bay Naval Shipyards, to convert the abandoned facilities with a negative environmental impact, into a modern naval industry with a notable economic and social impact, providing more jobs in that zone.

Retired vice admiral Omar Andujar Zaiter, who manages the Santo Domingo shipyards for Legus Enterprises, LTD and held the same post at Las Calderas, said in addition to the land and construction, the investment includes the new structures, environmental cleanup of the entire area, and the dredging of the river.

i think this is good for the country and for the area, i really wish they could build whatever is buildable near water on the Ozama river, and maybe that way it could stay clean and the people living on the side transfer for good

other problems is that thier are boat builders and ship builders
then their are people that think they can build boats?
just like they think they are auto mechnics.

let leo put the money needed for the schools.
then maybe the dr can build any thing they want to build.

I hope they provide proper tools - you cant build a submarine with just a hammer and a machete.
