SANTO DOMINGO. - The United Nations System in Dominican Republic recognizes the country’s and the world’s great advances in the matter of gender during an entire century, when it designated March 8 the International Day of the Woman, and also motivates Dominican society to work toward increasingly fewer inequalities, more opportunities and capacities among men and women.
According to a 2010 study of the Economic Fund World, if compared with other zones in the world, Latin America and the Caribbean have greatly advanced in gender equality in education and health, but not as much in women’s participation in economic opportunities or in the presence and power in politics.
In the same study on gender equality Dominican Republic ranks 73rd of 134 countries, where the weaknesses found include a low percentage of women in public positions of prominence, their little participation in the labor force and in the wages women receive compared to the men.

It will be good to see Women advance in society and have a greater opportunity to be influential. Education is definitely a key, especially for the younger generations. Because of not having as many opportunities and options some turn to prostitution, and that ruins the 'potential' for many people as it apparently is hard to get away from. I hope the next Government makes some positive steps towards providing some better opportunities for Women.

Goes to show how stupid and disconnected ateo is.... I can guarantee you that, that the people hanging out in Casa De Campo don't look like that, but many people fighting to survive everyday look like this.
The thing is, the dominant class use their hegemonic power over the media to present their biased version of reality as the only "legitimate" or "natural" version. Everything else is foreign, illigitemate, or unnatural.
But we need to fight such discriminating & oppressive mentality by showcasing the multicultural nature of the DR.
