Santo Domingo.- Industry and Commerce minister Manuel Garcia revealed that fuel prices will increase tomorrow Friday, a rise similar to last week’s range from RD$0.84 to RD$4.00 per gallon.

He said the increase aims to keep the cost of a barrel of oil transparent, since prices have jumped during this week, to close at US$109 yesterday. “We regrettably had a new scaled increase in prices for a of barrel petroleum during the week and are going to have to be transparent with a rise on fuels starting this weekend.”

Arevalo, interviewed in a meeting of the Dominican-Spanish Chamber of Commerce, revealed that a measure to deal with the constant increase in jet fuel (avtur) prices is being “considered.”

commoddity price's are determined by the futures market.what this market does is they serve the purpose of risk management, transferring risk from one party who wants more certainty in the future to another party who is in a better postion to assume the risk.the main players in the future market's are producers and consumers who want stable prices in the future, such as as the oil companies and motorists in the gasoline market, and the banks who stand ready to buy from or sell to them. the other market is the speculator's, such as hedge funds and other investor groups, who want to make money, by betting on the price fluctuations.in an orderly market, the main players occupy about 70% of the market and the other 30% consists of various types of speculators and investors.

but however in the current gasoline futures market speculators occupy about 80% of the market. so what iam saying is that the market for gas is upside down.and this that's the bubble in the gasoline price. gas pric

in the united states gas should be below $2 a gallon
if u add up all the producation and transportation costs and keep a healthy profit for the oil companys and the distributors.

US and DR petrol prices would be better at 10 dollars a gallon: same as Europe.
This would provide a tremendous boost for US economy as these tax revenues are used to promote green jobs.

ABC, you serious?

That would only worsen the transportation condition: more motoconios, more jalopies, more jobless people that can't afford to go to work..

Not to mention the consumer price index through the roof.

Europe has a public transport infrastructure and tradition.

The US, much less. Home of the hummer.

DR?? Home of the transport mafias.

No, there seems to be good investment in rickshaws and seated tricycles for transporting tourists in tourist elsewhere. Norrmal and electric cycles would be imported.
Consumer price index would reduce as more is produced locally and transported by horse and/ or oxen drawn cart.
Extra jobs would be created looking after horses etc.
Hospital bills would reduce due to people getting fitter and this would boost the economy.
Amish seem to do quite well without hummers.

The reduction in the US and DR import bill for oil would be a powerful stimulus. Extra tax raised by gas prices could be invested in high speed trains producing massive employment.

all this SO TRUE danny00 but the real issue is if you want to gamble go to a casino and QUIT making people who can not afford these mad fluctuations of a market manipulated by vultures, having to pay a artificially inflated price for a needed commodity is not socially justifiable. Same rules should apply to the stock market if you don't believe in a company enough to hold a stock for a minimum of 6 months go play poker or better yet go play Russian roulette you won't be missed

CMS There's only about 6.91 billion people - ignorant!
Capt Marcos wants to continue trashing the planet and increase the rate.
Sane people want to adapt lifestyles to avoid pollution, global warming and over production.
Nothing wrong with making artificial islands out of old Hummers.
Roads use far more valuable space than cycle/horse tracks and railways.
Just imagine if all the freeways in LA were released for growing food or green spaces!
No its good for DR to increase the price of gasoline. Also cut imports of cars like Singapore so only existing cars are replaced.
No expense building new roads; import bill for gasoline does not increase; pollution decreases as old cars are phased out and only the same number of new ones imported.
Hasn't done their economy too much harm!

prices will decrease as more people consume local food and it is transported by light railway or horse and cart.
The fuel used per freight ton mile on a light railway is very low. Where I used to live in France the tracks were used by day by passenger trains and by night by freight trains.
Every 5 minutes or so a 600 ton plus freight train ( equivalent 20 lorries ) used to glide by at night bringing food to the markets in Paris etc.
French nationalized railways are very profitable - this is good for any government.
The Swiss for example make good use of their railways for tourism.

I share your preoccupation to save the planet.

I also like the idea of the rickshaw. There's about 1,000,000 rickshaw runners waiting for the job call.
