President L. Fernandez meets with M. Gadhafi. The Libya turmoil affects fuel prices.
Zoom Picture

Santo Domingo.- The country’s fuel consumers are bracing for an unprecedented jump at the pumps as skyrocketing crude prices worldwide are expected to break a three-year record in the cost of gasoline and diesel.

We’re going to have to be transparent with a rise in fuels starting this weekend," was the stark warning by Industry and Commerce minister Manuel Garcia, who revealed that the increase would be similar in proportion to last weekend’s.

If what the official announced materializes, a gallon of premium gasoline would surpass the 2008 price of RD$208.80, and RD$197.80 for regular.

"Regrettably we’ve had an upward trend in prices during the entire week" Garcia said.

Nice photo of our Presidente Vitalicio and the King of Africa together.
I guess Leonel wll not be getting any of the money from Gadaffi any more. And I say any more because he had been getting "investments" from some of Gadaffi's circle, mainly in a farm in Guerra on the outskirts of the city, investments in trucking oil and gas around the island and a projected refinery in the planning stage.

Libiya is not the reason for price increases in gasoline.
Speculators are responsible. The US has done nothing to correct the way oil is priced and paid for on the futures market.
You only need to put 5% down for the futures market. Your total exposure is only 5% if it goes down.

They're only transparent when they're about to give us the shaft.

DR needs more freight and passengers to travel by light rail and to cut the number of cars.

Light / medium rail tracks are easy to lay and some routes exist already round the La Romana area. There are also some unused routes.

Investment would be low as there is spare capacity in construction at the moment. It could be financed by a surcharge on the oil price.

Also cycle tracks are needed for normal and electric bicycles.

why is it we never see quotes like this reported in the news Happily, we’ve had a downward trend in prices during the entire week" Garcia said. So prices will be dropping sharply! because while oil prices often drop it never gets passed on to the consumer...there is transparency for you!

The huge increases in fuel costs always get placed on the poorest people. People who can barely afford a meal now have to work harder for that one meal for their family every day. Pathetic how our corrupt government can live lavish lifestyles by keeping the poor people in the dark and uneducated so they can continue to steal blindly from them.
